I'll probably buy it anyway, but let's have initial impressions!

I seem to be the only person here who thinks 'Survivor' is 10,000 times better than 'WOTW', is this one a similar exponential advance?

Destiny's Child Xmas album? We know nothing of this in the Icen Forests of Hertfordshire!

Hey! We've been COMMANDED to learn an Xmas song for the Rough Trade RoTa Xmas party thing. Maybe we could fulfill BOTH ridiculous ambitions, and do an Xmas song that is ALSO a DC cover.

Hrmmmmmmmm... Am I going to buy my first DC album ever?

I heard it was a pile of mushy poo except for one track where Beyoncé goes on about how Christmas is all about getting presents.

Nick, Thursday, 29 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, this one guy was playing it at work, and it's ass. I wish Destiny's Child would just shut up. It's lots of blubbering, no one makes good Christmas albums anymore, they should just do one Christmas single and then let the compilations do their work.

Spector has a lot to answer for. One good Christmas album and everyone thinks they can have a go.

DQ - how much do you like Christmas?

Tom, Thursday, 29 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, it's a pile of mushy poo except for the one track where they go on about getting presents, that being the title track '8 Days of Christmas', which is great. 'Platinum Bells' is OK too.

I agree that Survivor is better than Writing On The Wall, but not so much that it's a terribly good album (Aaliyah, Pink, Kelis, Mya and En Vogue have all done better recently). Both are beset by filler, and at least on the latter album they had the sense to only release sterling singles, and since "Emotion" the same cannot be said for Survivor. I haven't heard the christmas album, but it sounds scary.

well, you know, christmas is all about getting presents. like, duh

I don't know about DC, but I live in hope that one year Mike Oldfield will release an Xmas record called 'Jingular Bells'.

Eagle, Friday, 30 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

JINGULAR BELLS.......that made me laugh out loud.

Destiny's Child is indefensible, empty, vaccuous crap. Raise your standards.

"indefensible, empty, vaccuous crap"

Sort out the selling and remove the word "crap" and you *are* Colonel Sanderson!

Robin Carmody, Saturday, 1 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what does fried chicken have to do with progressive ruralism?

ethan, Saturday, 1 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's Alex the Coach again! Or is Alex the President Elect? "America: Raise Your Standards".

Tim, Sunday, 2 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

America First! Honour the Fire!

Alex NYC in 2004!!, Sunday, 2 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nothing, Ethan. Colonel Sanderson is just a character I've created to write pseudonymous reactionary letters to British newspapers, which sometimes get printed.

And I don't use the phrase "progressive ruralism" much these days, though there are people on this forum who still deserve a kicking from it.

(p.s. Ethan, loved your Jay-Z review. Fantastic writing. Pitchfork at last in touch with America today rather than in its own little indie-rock fantasy world *flamers' bate*)
