Taking sides: Richard Buckner's Volkswagen commercial vs. Nick Drake's Volkswagen commercial

Will "ariel ramirez" help VW move units like "pink moon" did? Will young VW buyers 'connect' with images of young folks helping senior citizens take pictures of mountains in the same way that they 'connected' with images of young folks cruising around in a car together under a full moon? Will young VW buyers 'connect' with Richard Buckner's obtuse lyrics? And furthermore, why didn't the young couple take the old woman up to the top of the mountain so she could take her own damn picture of the mountains instead of just taking her camera?

i don't know but I hear/half-saw this the other day when I was half-asleep watching the olympics and thought I dreamed the whole thing until now! how cool for buckner.

My favorite VW commercial was the one where they used Hooverphonic's "Renaissance Affair". I think it was just clouds reflected on a moving light blue bug.

Richard Buckner is a twat.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 August 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

why do you say that?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 16 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

(i'm not necessarily disagreeing that personally he might be a twat; he managed to keep my friends band from ever playing a place by convincing the booker to never book them there out of some old left-over grudge from the doubters days)

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 16 August 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

they should have jacked the ol lady's camera, that would have been tight shit

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 16 August 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

why didn't they give that old lady a ride up there to take the picture herself?

vw has some really amazing ads. i think the nick drake one was spectacular. though i might not like them as much if i were actually in the market for a car.
'
anyone know where i might download the buckner and other ads?

The best one is still the old "Little Fluffy Clouds" one from around the time they introduced the new Bug.

"VW commercials here:"

But oddly enough, the Buckner commercial is not included...

ianinportland (ianinportland), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

and I'm having no luck finding it anywhere else either.

The Buckner commercial is at that VW link now. Anyway, I think the song is mesmerizing. I love it. I might even do what I never thought I'd do: buy a Richard Buckner record.
