"One soldier explains why Drowning Pool's song was the motto for his tank crew during battles. Another tells how rapper Tupac Shakur's songs were funneled through headsets in a M-1 Abrams tank as it rolled from Kuwait into Iraq at the start of the war, and then changed to the Triple 6 Mafia when they hit the streets of Baghdad."

If they try to broadcast this in the UK, I can only imagine that it will be edited down to about 2 minutes, because they won't be allowed to play any songs that might offend anyone in view of the fact that there isn't actually a war going on in Iraq any more, honest.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, they'll probably play it in full in the UK, but get some London Ladette to dub over the voiceover with an English accent, like they did with recent "Behind The Music"/"Top 20 Squillion Excuses to Show Bits of Crap Videos From 20 Minutes Ago" type programmes!!!!

Anyway that business with switching the music in the headphones sound awfully like changing the background music whenever you get an end-of-level monster in a videogame!!!!!

Didn't "Fahrenheit 911" sorta cover this?

from the linked story:

Several scenes in Gittoes' film were featured in Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11." But unlike Moore's film, "Soundtrack To War" centers on the soldiers' personal feelings rather than their political ones.

My head hurts.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The needlessly melismatic, head-jerky "patriotic" song the one private sings ....... sickly glop.
