I remember sitting in a shitty bar on Bleeker Street in 1989 (The Peculiar Pub, pedants) with a few friends of mine. There was a couple sitting next to us. When "Sweet Child o' Mine" by G'n'R came on, the male half of the couple actually stood up from his chair, bit his bottom lip and started strenuously mimicing Slash, while earnestly keeping eye-contact with his date. We shuddered in collective shame for him. A friend of mine wanted to buy the female half of the couple a pitcher of beer, just so she could pour it in the guy's lap.

Still, for some reason, hiking up 6th Avenue whilst scraping a tear into the front pocket of m jeans (where the strings ought to be) whilst listening to the amphetamine-fueled harmonics of Fast Eddie Clark's guitar seemed like a perfectly logical thing to do.

Yesterday I was sitting on a curb out in front of this club and some dude was stopped at a red light, "Hot For Teacher" blasting from out his windows. I back-n-forthed between air-guitar and air-drumming on that one. I'm a fucking air-multi-instrumentalist.

Heh heh, probably something by Twisted Sister or some such - I'm sure I haven't air-guitarred in literally 20 yrs, ever since I got a R-E-A-L one. But I confess to playing air DRUMS (an even more ridiculous activity!) a few nights ago. The track: "Halleluwah". The verdict: I SUCK!

I air-bass more than anything, to be honest. It's how I figure chord progressions out.

For Van Halen, it's all Runnin' With The Devil for me, though I've got a spot for Hot For Teacher as well.

Favourite song to mimic is by Iron Butterfly. And no, NOT the one you'd think, but "My Mirage" rather. It's fairly simple.
