Anyway, the version of "Girl Anachronism" I downloaded a few weeks back is WAY different that the one that I downloaded from what I thought was the official 'album.' I know they have a live EP or something in addition to the s/t album, but neither of these versions is live (unless i've gone completely insane).
The first version is the better of the two - the vocals are doubled, and she trades off the lines with her self (my favorite parts of the song are when the voices overlap and the one in the 'background' sings "Here I go again!," "Don't get me wet!," and "Make believin!" etc etc) but on this 'album' version, the lead vocals are only single tracked (which is even more confusing because there ARE two vocals tracks when she doubles herself but just not on the verses) and it sounds like she's trying really hard to keep up with herself.
What's the deal?

xpost I got it from soulseek. It's awesome. I really wanna find the source. If you're REALLY interested I'm sure you could just downlaod a few version of it and listen. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
But the one I'm talking about - with the single tracked vocals and the schoolyard chant in the beginning - that's the official album version?

"now the war is over/Mussollini's dead" etc. and then it goes into the song.

presumably different, not sure longer or shorter - i wish i had the disc in front of me but it's currently sitting in a box a few states away
Does the music seem to be a different take or just the vocals?
no the music is definitely also different. It's maybe a little slower (but that could just be my ears deceiving me because of the single tracked vocals making the album version seems faster)
Does it have the piano noodling in the beginning as well?
yes - but even IT sounds different, and so does the '1, 2, 3, 4' part
Do you by any chance recall the username of the person you got it from on slsk?
no way
Am I right in assuming it would not be tagged as "02-Girl Anachronism" as that's the album versions track number? I take it that there wasn't anything else in the tagging to indicate an alternate take/mix.
yeah, i just downloaded it looking for the song itself, and i just randomly downloaded one. I'm not the kinda guy who looks for higher bitrates or anything like that, so the first one I saw in bold, I downloaded.
It sucks you can't find it - i wish i knew how to upload things. I'll try searching for it again too, I really wanna hear what you think.

THE DRESDEN DOLLS: 5 Song Demo This is a rough recording of some of the Doll's work to date. It was recorded quickly at Emerson College with the great help of our good friend and engineer Owen Curtin and mastered by Noah Blumenson-Cook.
Tracks:
1. Half Jack 2. Girl Anachronism 3. The Perfect Fit 4. Colorblind 5. Good Day
They used to sell it at their Boston shows and on their website. I don't know if it is still available...
