The Constantines because they don't sound like the Hives who sounded sort of fresh four years ago but pretty much now sound like the rest of the retro-garage painfulness going round.

I missed the Constantines at Siren. I really wish I hadn't because I love the Hives (I really have to wonder if Hives haters even like their kind of music at all) and if they're even better then I'm seriously missing out.

I don't hate the Hives, actually I think the first record was good and they have amazing energy live. Must admit I haven't heard their second album yet. But dontcha just think there are too many retro-garage bands around at the moment playing derivative and unspired riffs with requisite yelps and "oh yeahs" throughout?

Maybe the Scandinavian ones aren't as bad as the Australian ones!

CeCe otm RE:Hives. Constantines is probably just sub-Spoon Springsteen-croon (and lets lay it on thick w/the handclaps that always fools 'em), but I liked them a lot when I first heard that one album, not the rereleased first one, but the 2nd one or whatever (so maybe I still would like them if I listened to that album again). Their first album kinda sucked the one time I heard it except for the 6th track which rocked quite convincingly.

i find the constantines unlistenable. I can at least listen to the Hives' singles if nothing else.
