Yeah, wow, thanks to Steve Hise for making me pull out Phallus Dei again. can sorta hear a little Yessong in "Luzifers", but what's really hitting me is just what a monster bass player Dave Anderson was. (the Yessynch that recently blew my mind was the Levene's "Poptones" Howe's "Starship Trooper" that I read somewhere around here recently. was that Sinker on some old thread? sounds like him. or maybe it was actually on someone's blog?)(ah wait, no, it was Marcello on that "Guardian" thread!) But yeah, Anderson really gave the whole swirling stew the kick in the pants it needed.
the vibraphone on this record is amazing too. They shoulda kept that guy around, Christian Borchard. the last couple minutes of the title track is some HEAVY shit, man. Best violin/vibes/bass/guitar doom coda ever.

Go to Edgar AllenIn the tower of sleepHe'll tell you a storyWhich makes you to creepThe echo of your criesIs falling so deep
Rent a destroyerAnd sail to Cape Cod
****ALL TIME BEST-LYRIC****There lives a lionThey call him God***************************
There is no elevator to EdenBut a hole in the sky
In shock-corridorsPeople are standingWith their eyes in their handsBut they don't understandWhy their confessional folding-chairsGo into the narcotic flight of stairs
Baiting soldiers are sleepingIn the melting House of WaxWhy is the audience not takingThe insurrection-axeThousands of windows burst openAnd the alarm bells are broken
.....unfortunately only have this on "Best Of", but there are some fine trax on that comp as well. But Archangel is one of the key greats. I always thought the singing was remeniscent of J. Rotten...

I like the heavy stuff too, but have lately been really bowled over by Green Bubble Raincoated Man, which reminds me a whole, whole lot of 1st album Slapp Happy...guess the influence runs the other way, but surprised that I haven't run into the SH comparison so much previously. Probably would have gotten me interested in ADii earlier.

Sometimes I fantasize that Amon Duul II titles became part of the lingua franca of the hippie set:
"What's with that chick? Is she just a Restless Skylight-Transistor-Child?"
"Hey, man, you're Stumbling Over Melted Moonlight tonight!"

For someone who wasn't a native English speaker, Falk-U Rogner wrote some great psychedelic gobbledygook lyrics - and came up with great song titles.

This 10 minute pilot (?) from 1998 for a show called "Archangel Thunderbird" popped up on YouTube. It's kind of rubbish and not old enough to be hauntological but a bit of a curio. Would be hugely improved if it had used the song as a soundtrack.
