Classic. Best DMX album, this was when he was one of the giants before he fell off, i haven't listened to it since like 10th year but I listened to it all the time. Swizz Beats was really the best in the game at that time, the one track I always remember rewinding was No. 10, "Omen" i think, that beautiful windy oboe and the stoned singing. It's my favourite deep X song. Oh and "Aint No Way" best Swizz Beatz beat!! "We going back to some robot shit on this one dawg! Real mechanical baby!". And the club banger that has the same bass line as "Here Come The Hotstepper". The devil song is pretty good. Cool cover as well, DMX all dripping in blood. I might do this next in GN Headed 2 Da Classics actually.

no.10 = "slippin'" i think - beautiful melancholy track - the first dmx track i ever heard, back when it came out and i didn't like rap, but i really dug it regardelss. personally i think dmx raised his game in a big way on "and then there was x..." (in my top 10 greatest albums fo sho) and i found this one muted in comparison. but i put it on today and it hit home in a big way. devil track not very good, but "keep your shit the hardest", "my niggas" and "aint no way" rule (+"slippin'" obv"). those brutal, crystal-clear swizz beats productions are perfect.

"I might do this next in GN Headed 2 Da Classics actually."

I like DMX (and I like this album although as with all DMX stuff a little tends to go a long way) but he needs to stop trying to be an actor. He is crap at that.

six months pass...
i have been hooked on the last two songs on this for the last couple of weeks. that's "heat" which = spidery gothic minimalism and "ready to meet him" which = melancholy religious epic. best swizz productions.

the prayer in between doesn't do much for me though.

my rap-hating g/f liked the two songs i played for her off this album - that's "slippin'" and ready to meet him.

did the GN headed to the classics piece tentatively suggested upthread ever appear?

Was this recorded before or after DMX joined the FBI?
