If Keren Ann looked like pre-stomach-stapled Carnie Wilson, would anyone give a shit about her music?

Or whatever it was she had done. Regardless, I say no.

Then again, who gives one shit about anorexic Christina Ricci?

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I was willing to bet good money that this was a you-know-who thread. Name rimes with semen.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I gave plenty of shits about Christina Ricci before she lost all that lovely "meat" on her bones - but at least I didn't dump them on Chicago.

Seconded. See also: Thora Birch.

Who's Carnie Wilson?

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Her voice sold millions of records for the pop group Wilson Phillips. But Carnie Wilson became a household name when she underwent gastric bypass surgery—better known as stomach stapling. Wilson lost 150 pounds. Her story inspired others hoping to reach a normal weight.

doesn't the fact that carnie wilson had considerably more success pre-stomach stable kinda undermine your argument?

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah but she can tie her shoes now.

(damn! that's low even for me)

(at least I can reach as low as my jokes)

(damn! no I gotta quit)

I don't believe so, because she was not solo. The other Wilson and the Phillips were pretty hot. They distracted from Carnie's oozing chub.

would pavement have got as far as they did (however far that is) if steven malkmus didn't have perfect cheekbones and hair? would bright eyes be as popular? would no doubt? would usher? good looks isn't a requirement by any means but it ALWAYS helps, and it usually helps a lot. in mainstream pop, in indie pop, in movies, in politics, in business, in pretty much everything. that's how it's always been. learn to live with it.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

helps more in indie pop cuz them some hardup motherfuckers

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

would Jandek have the following he does if he didn't include photos of his fine self on his records?

sexyDancer, Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Carnie is short for Carnivore and she is a lesson to us all about what happens when one eats an all-meat diet rich in saturated fats.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

don't be a dickwad.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 26 August 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread has dickwadedness written all over it, but since you ask, I hadn't heard of Keren Ann before, so I went to her website and actually find her quite intriguing - my first thought was "French Isobel Campbell", but thinking about it some more I have to say that's to do KA a great disservice...Keren Ann is the better singer and there is artistry and originality about her that would lead me most categorically to say "yes", in answer to the question.

the site's cool, btw, check it out, imaginitively designed, great videos:
