Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the Smashing Pumpkins

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

And...Tad. The Pogues. The Ramones are all pretty ugly. Motorhead.
But I find ugly people sexy sometimes. But maybe that's just me..

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Uhhh..all of them? I mean, isn't this the whole REASON for playing rock and roll? I mean, if you are good looking, you don't need to play rock music to, you know, meet chicks.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Or dudes.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob Halford doesn't have any chicks

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

damn x-post

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose the Scott person is right.
But I wanna know great bands with ugly GIRLS in them.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Every band ever.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't listen to Gene Simmons, he don't know shit about nuthin.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The Rolling Stones, obviously.

daft Punk

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

If the Rolling Stones are ugly, then what are the good looking bands?

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, there are no good looking bands.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes there are! Well, some bands have at least one good-looking member.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Devandera Banhart, he's quite handsome, you know.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Jack Black - he's sexy.
And although he's not a band, Tupac was sexy.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Sigh. Shrug. Sigh again.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

What? Those guys ARE sexy!

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Tupac's not anymore, unless you dig the worm-ridden corpse look.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

No one is claiming these people aren't sexy.

Just that they are totally without alibis of any nature.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Xpost

Very funny. I mean, when he was ALIVE. Duh.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Just breakin' your balls. Ooooh!

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no balls!
I mean, literally.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I know that.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to fancy Luscious Jackson.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

But that was like...ages ago.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The Cars. Ric Ocasek scoring Pauline Poriskova (sp?)=impossible without that kind of success. Both Buckleys were modelesque.

art f, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes..I have heard the expression "breaking your balls"...I don't know why I said that.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Which one in LJ, AdamL? Or ALL THREEE?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Both the Buckleys are ugly!
Jeff Buckley looks like Josh Groban, for God's sake.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait were there FOUR?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Were there? I wouldn't know.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

There were four. One I didn't like. She had a face like a steam engine.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Four Buckleys?

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

No thanks.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(xp) You know who I could never stand in Luscious Jackson was Vivian. She always looked so snooty. Gabby and Jill were cute, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Steam engine??

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate Schellenbach?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all lost in the mists of time now, J. Let's not disturb it.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I have done research in the last five minutes.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"J"? Does everyone here know everyone (except me)?

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

You scare me whenever you say that.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Who are you? I'm adam. pleased to meet you.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I see you have your own thread even. That's nice for you.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm Nowell, but that's not even pronouncing or spelling it correctly (my name is Noel, but don't call me that).

Yeah. That's nice for me.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Noel"? Are you sure you're not a guy?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It's pronounced like the Christmas word. I actually started spelling it "Noelle" cuz I was sick of people pronouncing it "Nole", but then I went back to Noel. But I spell it differently all the time. I got the "Nowell" spelling from this girl at school who I had to do some project with, and she spelled it like that. So I started spelling it like that for fun.

And yes, I'm damn sure I'm not a guy.

Actually, I don't know if I want to now. There are quite a few music related questions I have, but none of them are really...uh..."smart".

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

AAAAAAAAAaagh! who knew?

Thea (Thea), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not nearly as Gallic looking as Air.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

no that's Spencer on the left, tucking in his tshirt

Thea (Thea), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

. I've never even really heard the Cure.

How is this possible?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never bought any of their records.
I've heard snippets of their music, and it just doesn't seem like my thing.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The Cure have a pretty versatile arsenal. One trick ponies they are not.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The 'South Park' guys like 'em, so they must be good.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You just need to hear the right HP ad.

Also, use the handy dandy search function, luv. Cheers wot wot.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Nowell is giving another ILM'er with a name beginning with "N" quite a run for his money, these days.

Thea (Thea), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh huh.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, there's a cute dorky boy with a weird voice sitting near me.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I gotta go now. See ya.
I love you. All y'all.

Nowell, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Come back tomorrow, y'hear?

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Que huele, el raton.

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The Fall...

Mark E. was never much of a looker even at 18, and probably less so now wot with all the missing teef and wrinkles.

But I suppose it's offset by the succession of cute girlies in the band.

Faust and Can both looked like disgraceful hippies, and Kraftwerk had weird looking heads.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Faust and Can both looked like disgraceful hippies, and Kraftwerk had weird looking heads.

Sentence of the month.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not nearly as Gallic looking as Air.

*sighs* Air are Drop Dead Gorgeous. *sighs again*

Lemme see -- I never thought of Andy Taylor as particularly gorgeous, though he was a bit cute ca. 1980 - 1984. (You guys should know how "great" I think that band is.) Um, Brian Eno was kinda... unusual-looking in the '70s. I mean, he wasn't ugly enough to scare little children away, but he certainly wasn't going to win any beauty contests either. I suppose you could also consider Mick Karn to have an unconventional sort of physical appearance, though there were times throughout Japan's existence when Mick Karn was kinda beautiful.

Um, verdict on Stewart Copeland, people?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 26 August 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the Smashing Pumpkins

D'Arcy and James are both pretty good looking and before he lost all his hair, Billy had a certain boyish charm about him that could be described as being attractive. I think he's got a nice smile. While Jimmy's not necessarily model material, I'd hardly call him ugly.

-The Jesus and Mary Chain
-The Stone Roses

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 26 August 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Steely Dan are some ugly motherfuckers.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 26 August 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

New York Dolls. David "Buster" JoHansen has a face like a foot - and not in the Meltzer-an "beautiful as a foot" sense either. The original Mothers of Invention were none too pleasant. (Which Zappa turned into a selling point.) And it's worth noting that Ian Stewart was supposedly ejected from the Stones for being "too ugly!" (Ponder that for a second.) As for Iggy and Ringo, I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. (Their features were undeniably "expressive", for whatever that's worth.)

Damn, this is fun! Wish I could say that Twisted Sister was a great band. Or The Shaggs. (Never heard 'em.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pointer Sisters were pretty ugly. Mannish depression is a frustrating mess.

But the worst-looking band, great or not, were the O'Kaysions ("Girl Watcher"). I saw their pic in the Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders and almost swore off men entirely.

Joseph McCombs, Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a band, but Dionne Warwick's never been much of a looker.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Blood Sweat & Tears. Or any other band with Al Kooper.

Joseph McCombs, Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Some would call Patti Smith odd-looking though I love her look. And lord almighty, her guitar-playing son is handsome. Not that I care about such things (ha) but fyi to those who do.

Nina Simone, a hero of mine looked a bit toad-like in her later years and the pole-like hairdo on top of her head was bizarre. But again, I loved it all, m.s.r.i.p.

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And lord almighty, her guitar-playing son is handsome.

You sure you're not thinking of Oliver Ray, her (much younger) boyfriend/guitarist?

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Gene Ween is funny looking. Dean Ween, however, is DREAMY. Their drummer is a hot muscular black man. Everyone else in their band look like full-grown former child stars.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The best ugly band (or is it the ugliest best band):

Blue Cheer

The Saints

Pointer Sisters

Dead Boys

briania (briania), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The Spinners, though they get points for that Rollie Fingers-mustached guy.

Joseph McCombs, Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Dead Boys

Good call, but they were so ugly that they were positively transcendent.

Simon and Garfunkel

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

REM really were a cute band back in the day. I doubt they'd have gone far if they'd started out looking like Poison Idea or the Scorpions. Or like they do now.

briania (briania), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

And lord almighty, her guitar-playing son is handsome.
You sure you're not thinking of Oliver Ray, her (much younger) boyfriend/guitarist?
Probably means Jackson Smith, guitarist w. Back in Spades from Detroit. He's a lanky dude built along the lines of his father, Fred "Sonic" Smith. Got no idea if he inherited the talent, too.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the beach boys !

many of the manky manc gods on factory had been belted with the ugly stick. happy mondays, f'rinstance. yes, sean looked OK with long hair, but the state he's in now more than makes up for it. northside were fuckin' mutants. ACR covered up their goggle-eyed freakiness by wearing shorts, so everybody marvelled at their knobbly knees instead.

Technically a group not a band, but Wu-Tang Clan is some ugly motherfuckers as well.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 28 August 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a band, but Dionne Warwick's never been much of a looker.

Wht?! I always thought she was beautiful. And also the young Barbra Streisand, yes, Streisand, with that WONDROUs nose of hers.
