Read an Interpol interview the other day and they were talking abotu some kids who do stand up comedy before Rapture gigs and do jokes about all these NY bands. So, know anyone good jokes?

jesss, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

that was in kings magazine. i read that too. i liked how they did it. one serious interview and one for laffs.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yes but does anyone know any of these jokes about 'trendy' NY bands that are meant to be out there? It may sound lame, but I hadn't even heard the Strokes ones!

jesss, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

nope.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

this is a pretty good Strokes joke

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Zoe: Oh Melody, I feel so bad about something I did!

Melody: What happened?

Zoe: I was dumping my chamber pot out the window on Bedford Avenue, and I accidentally soaked Karen O with shit and piss!

Melody: Man, that girl's everywhere!

Jenny Jeffson (Ian Christe), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

ironically enough, I spent a few hours in the Rapture tour van with those stand up comedy kids making up Interpol jokes. Unfortunately, none can be mentioned here. However I gave them one joke to use at the Providence show where I DJ'd between bands(The Prosaics also played)

How come all RISD students end up graphic designers?

Because they're not real artists!

which is funnier if you know the person who created that joke is a)a graphic designer, and b)a terrible artist.

Anyway, that joke didn't go over so well.

Most of the jokes are extremely dirty hipster referencing versions of Neil Hamburger. If I can remember any, I will share.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

the girl whose journal that is is some sort of libertines lunatic.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

jesss your name is going to cause some confusion

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

There already was a Jess so what's a girl to do?

Please tell those Interpol jokes - it's not like anyone's going sue you over them.

jesss, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

my two favorite amateur stand-up comedians, although i never thought i'd see them get their own thread. i'm trying to remember the interpol ones.. one had the punchline "interpol, enter hole!" and another involved "turn on your brown light" and another had something to do with lack of talent being their obstacle #1.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

something to do with lack of talent being their obstacle #1.

haha that's actually quite funny!

purple patch (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the jokes we told in the van were much worse then that.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i've heard a lot, believe me.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Stand up comedy about indie bands sounds like a fate worse than death.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you would think so, but these two fellows are a treat 1000x over. trust me on this one.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I will try.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure you have lauren, I was just stating that for the rest of the folk here, less they think the jokes you were telling were the jokes we were telling during the aformentioned van ride.

Their comedy is as much about them as it is about the jokes or their intended victims. I say it's more a kind of performance art.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Standup / Performance Art about indie bands = ULTIMATE DUD.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

But if Lauren likes it, then ... umm ... maybe it's classic .. I guess ...

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

declaring things "ULTIMATE DUD" based on a brief description as opposed to experience = pretty dud!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

this whole thread = dud = ultimate dud

bloggers talking to hipsters talking to bloggers

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Interpol jokes from Buddyhead:

Not only did Carlos from Interpol steal Asif’s haircut (he manages Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Tv On The Radio and a million other bands) but he’s also a hardcore chubby chaser. Yeah he’s the guy who’s always “diving on the grenade” outta the bunch of em. Yeah dude, he’s pounding the pudgy pussy! At least the man has a passion… fuck, that’s more than most of you geeks can say.

From an e-mail a friend sent me before I went to Siren:

p.s. I know you've got a backstage pass, but don't give Carlos D. from Interpol any head. He gave...er, my friend...a case of oral crabs and an unshakeable craving for Wayne Newton.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

who's a blogger and who's a hipster?

and who's both?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm laughing my head off, williamsburg-hairstyle and all...

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

dude hipsters talking to bloggers talking to hipsters is ILX, duh.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

heh.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

yay for carlos

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

declaring things "ULTIMATE DUD" based on a brief description as opposed to experience = pretty dud!

regardless of what else goes on, joking about indie bands for attention is dud.

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. that's exactly what the so-called stand up comics were doing. joking about indie bands for attention. There's no chance they're doing it because it's fun, stupid, ridiculous, and quite funny.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 26 August 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

arguing with a noise dude is like fucking for virginity

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 26 August 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

dan, that was a joke about what we do here as well.

arguing with a noise dude is like fucking for virginity

you should be the comedian! ROFFLE, ETC.

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 05:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you were continuing a criticism of the stand-up comedians.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 26 August 2004 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Given Interpol's small effect on the world as a whole, it seems like an inside joke taken too far, which can be said for 85% of ILX as well, I'm sure.

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"I tried playing softball with Interpol in McCarren Park the other day -- they thought the plate was Joy Division so they tried to steal home!"

Dumbo (Ian Christe), Thursday, 26 August 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

why not let those who want to tell and hear Interpol jokes do so in peace? This is a thread for telling jokes about indie bands.

What's the difference between a 35 yr old indie-rock musician and a 16 inch pizza?

The 16 inch pizza can feed a family of four!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 26 August 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

DUD

and that girl with the live journal, i hope i never meet anyone like her. people like her exist!? AACK

reo, Thursday, 26 August 2004 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: What did Julian Csablanca's girlfriend say when she first saw his dick?

A: "Is This It?"

mazzy, Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i know a good joke about Interpol.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

what is it?

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: what was the most popular phrase uttered by interpol groupies in the band's dressing room?

A: turn off the bright lights.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

did you hear about the interpolish firing squad? they stand in a circle.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Interpol are the emo Duran Duran

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

right down to the flashy bass player's fat fetish

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god , no more EMO SPINNING NO NO STOP

kephm, Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Carlos D (Crispin Glover as the metrosexual Hitler) probably wouldn't be that popular if Paul Banks resembled Ian Curtis rather than Christopher Robin.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

though Carlos is probably the one that plays Pooh Sticks

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually like Interpol a lot. They sound like Echo & The Bunnymen improved on every level. I don't know if they'll ever be really huge though, cuz perfecting inane '80s mope'n'gel still limits your audience to the pasty-on-the-inside.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing about Carlos D. being a chubby chaser is not a joke. IT's actually very very true.

Ashley Harrison, Thursday, 26 August 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

none of these really top the r. kelly pirate joke

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 August 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

carlos is lucky i'm taken otherwise we might have a turf war on our hands

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 26 August 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the r. kelly pirate joke

I like the joke that was in Chunklet:

"Why are hipsters bad at karate?"

"Cause they can never get past white belt"

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Thursday, 26 August 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing about Carlos D. being a chubby chaser is not a joke. IT's actually very very true.

jokes are funnier when they're true (which is what I've been trying to get at with every post)

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 27 August 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

eight years pass...

any interpol groupie stories? info on them is surprisingly scarce. this band ruled 2000-2005 but totally lost the plot after they moved to capitol. saw them in dc last year at the 9:30 tho and it was rocking, even minus carlos, setlist really heavy on totbl and antics, only heinrich from olta, and a handful from the s/t
