Good fucking GOD does this album rule.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope it does but I have doubts.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

b-but....how can that be?

xpost

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that seriously the name? Points for that!

"Yeah, ya mug, why I oughta..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only halfway through it, but I already know that this will EASILY rank among the best albums of the year. AND IT HAS A JAMES GANG SAMPLE!! HOW THE HELL CAN YOU BEAT A JAMES GANG SAMPLE!?!?!?!?

All together now: "It's a wonderful night, you gotta take it from me. It's a wonderful night, I'm gonna break it on down."

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

better than i expected it to be

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone have this on soulseek?

Detour Of Insanity, Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

yes this is pretty good - didn't realise that he'd done that track from the 02 ad -- Long Way From Home

all about lateef flowing in 3:4 on The journey - incredible dexterity, Justin Robertson singing and the cuts on north west three

damon albarn track sucks as does the cover of the joker, though i always find myself liking the spirit of cook, even if i hate certain tracks. i like the way he's quite a reluctant star, if i remember rightly a few years ago he described fame as running down the beach into the sea in your clothes, only to have to turn round and walk up the beach with wet trousers

soc, Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

cover of the joker

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, with bootsy collins on bass

soc, Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Just caught his new video for "Slashdotslash" tonight! I'm still undecided whether I really like it or not?

Sometimes that is the beauty of Fatboy: his unblinding brilliance for finding the kookiest samples and hooks and putting them into dancular pop context by twisting and mutating them for all to love or hate!

I did an interview with him years ago and, yes, he's sooo humble about things. Suppose he's been in the biz long enuff to know how to keep his feet firmly planted whilst keeping cashflow coming in at the same time!

So... what obscure stuff is he sampling this time around then?

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't get past the third song -- and even getting that far was hard.

frankE (frankE), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

he has a song called Slashdotslash???!?

comme personne (common_person), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately, large swathes of this (especially "The Joker") sound like, well, Smash Mouth. It's almost like he's moved to Orange County or something. However, there are bright spots including the "Jingo" update which would mix well with "Galang", and the pretty "Song for Chesh". This is based on a cursory once through - maybe I'll get into it more (although his albums have always been very hit and miss for me).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 August 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

but he's always sounded like smashmouth!

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 29 August 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

it's dreadful.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Sunday, 29 August 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I have not heard and am in no hurry. it can't be as bad as the Prodigy though I guess.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 29 August 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't imagine this would be any good, albums named after places never are.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 29 August 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, excepted, of course.

frankE (frankE), Sunday, 29 August 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

its dreadful shit. this is the worst stuff he has ever done. that slash dot slah track ?!!?!@! what the hell?

Northwest Three is a total rippoff. i mean what!?
its just a loop with some wierd noises over the top.

i'm astounded at how bad this is. Its not even commercially bad. i mean ii'd be surprised if this gets anywhere.

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I had really, really been hoping that the Slash Dot Dash going around last month was a hoax. It's a sad day when Bootsy Collins appearances can't save you, isn't it?

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 30 August 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Fatboy, on this album, wants to be Basement Jaxx mixed with Groove Armada's "At The River". This is a really, really, really bad idea.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 30 August 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The Joker cover is bloody awful as well.

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 30 August 2004 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Who knew that crossing "The Rockafeller Skank" with "In Heaven" would work so well?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 August 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

finally listening to this - two tracks in...it's terrible

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

four tracks in...still terrible...i didn't realise it was Fatboy used in that O2 ad. that's not interesting but it's the only thing i can think to remark. other than WHERE'S THE ACID?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Fatboy Slim = Dance Music for clueless 20something Q readers

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 6 September 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

this makes Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars seem an awful lot better (I liked it anyway)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 6 September 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately, large swathes of this (especially "The Joker") sound like, well, Smash Mouth.

I was gonna try to come up with something to insult this cover, but this sums it up nicely.

frankE (frankE), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
All the hate! This is a great album. But I stop before track 12, lest I be murdered by bad taste.
