Amon Duul II in the song "5.5.55" from one of their later albums Renate whispers "typhoons through [the] orbit". I don't remember the "the" but a lyric site I googled shows it. Haven't played this LP in more than 10 years, but I still remember (and love) this bit.

nickn (nickn), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Rich (Rich), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of my faves already mentioned (hello "Pillow Talk" & "Antarctica Starts Here"!), but how about Gong's "Witches Song," with Gilli Smyth seductively whispering "Aii-ii ammm your POOOSS-eeee..."

briania (briania), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the early Kim Gordon's chilly whispering for the SY, but she can't seem to summon it anymore. Her main priority lately (loosely used, ie w/Free Kitten) seems to be a worrisome Bon Scott impersonation.

A favorite: the whispered speaking bit at the end of Young Marble Giants' "Eating Noddemix" - it seems private, like muttering to one's self rather than imparting some sensual secret.

Abbitt, Friday, 27 August 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty much any Pulp track

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 27 August 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Most Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens and Air.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 28 August 2004 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

My personal favorite in this category is Visage's "Whispers", which is mostly an instrumental but relies upon, um, whispers, toward the beginning to set the mood and narrative. The whispering on that track gives me goosebumps all over.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 28 August 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)
