i think you're missing the point, either purposefully or by accident.

Mos's new album is pretty fucken awesome. there's some Black jack Johnson on there...

you've heard the new mos album? wow, is it as good as BOBS?

i think r n r was a really great song (musically esp. so - a fantastic beatnuts beat and great hardcore/thrash conclusion), i totally get the point, its to shit stir, and challenge peoples accepted wisdom. that said, he blew it somewhat when he said things like certain non-rocking people were rock artists, and that all the stones did was steal, but i applaud him for what he was trying to do.

that said, while i liked the hardcore ending to the song, from what ive heard of black jack johnson (a live bootleg), they havent been too promising.

to be honest, i dont know mos can top BOBS. its one of the greatest hip hop albums of the last ten years IMO.

Mos Def's Woody Allen/Michael Jackson thing still pisses me off much more than his Rolling Stones/Nina Simone thing.

Why don't we just put this one in the FAQ?

Haha, I posted for the very first time on ILM in response to a thread on this song.

this song was one of the biggest turn-offs for me when I first heard the album. it does amuse me for the Limp Bizkit putdown, considering that Fred Durst talked about how much he loved the Mos Def and it's like dude, did you ever notice that line?

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

No classic, but I don't care enough about the lyrics to reflexively vote dud.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I still like the beat and the pirate chant.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's an OK track. certainly not one of the top 5 reasons to like that album a lot, but it's not bad. like people say, nice beat, thrash bit is OK, and the whole idea of what's rock n roll = mos trying to say it's an attitude / rebellion thing, not a "sound" defined by rock n roll guitars, steady backbeat blah blah.
so for him, nina siomone or john coltrane = consistent. and i'd agree. cos otherwise staind are more rock n roll than Run DMC, and that's just silly...

What's Mos's deal with Woody Allen?

They both seem uber neutortic New Yorkers; they making a picture together?

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 9 September 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

mos said he didnt get why woody didnt receive as much flak for his relationship with a girl that probably looked up to him as her father. his beef was that woody pretty much continued working as he was doing before with no real problems, while michael jackson didnt get off as lightly in his eyes. im paraphrasing from memory here so i could be wrong.

splooge (thesplooge), Thursday, 9 September 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You can laugh and criticize Michael Jackson if you wanna
Woody Allen, molested and married his step-daughter
Same press kicking dirt on Michael's name
Show Woody and Soon-Ye at the playoff game, holding hands
Sit back and just bug, think about that
Would he get that type of dap if his name was Woody Black?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 9 September 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I know why Woody got such a good press, because the council of Zion elders obviously ordained it so, duh!
