Been gone for ten days - what have I missed? What's good?

What should I download? I haven't seen The Onion, Pitchfork, or an ILM post in almost two weeks (and I don't "do" "archives"). I've kept up on worldly events but that's it - no fun. ILM - your housewarming mix CD suggestions, please...

Well, we all agreed that no one should mention Nirvana again and that Joss Stone should be burned at a stake.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Normally I thought you reversed those sentiments.

Burning Down The House - Talking Heads

Didn't Ned buy a publishing company or something?

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 10 September 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Give me time.

i'm currently checking these out.The new American Music Club,Thalia Zedek,Scott Morgan & the Solution,Animals That Swim,Diplo,Susanna and the Magical Orchestra & i really like the new Bark Pyschosis album "Codename Dustsucker"..Oh and the new Flesheaters album Miss Muerte is cool plus they just reissued " A Hard Road to Follow".Six Organs of Admittance put out "The Manisfestation" on cd.Zola X is a glam/metal band from the 1970's that Jello Biafra reissued on his label.Or you can go to the website for Club Au-Go Go and order 12 of the best 60's beat comps you'll ever see for about $7 each.
This does not include all the great live stuff for download off Bt.easytree & Sharing the Groove.Welcome back. And oh yeah the new Twilight Singers is fantastic.

If you like people murdering Bjork and Mary J. Blige songs, it is.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 September 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer the word transforming but yeah Greg Dulli is generally a love/hate proposition. All swagger.no songs.Which is why i like this. Finally songs to go with the attitude.I think of him as an indie version of Fat Elvis.Which possibly makes no sense but hey i'm pretty drunk so whatever.I just like to hear him Dulli up other peoples tunes.

evan chronister (evan chronister), Friday, 10 September 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dulli up"

It's a shame this descriptor will never attain widespread use.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 10 September 2004 05:25 (twenty-one years ago)

an indie version of Fat Elvis

so OTM its scary.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 10 September 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

and I mean that as a compliment to Dulli. I like this album a lot more than Blackberry Belle because it's got tunes to go with the standard Dulli drama.

if Joss were burned at the stake she'd be a 'joss stick'

dave q, Friday, 10 September 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Evan, how's the new Thalia Zedek album?

Ben Dot (1977), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread was quite fun; and this one's been a bit of a giggle too.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 10 September 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and you've missed any slim chance you might otherwise have had of actually getting tickets to see Tom Waits at Hammersmith Apollo too.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 10 September 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i realised that Dead End Street by Lou Rawls and David Axelrod is my all time fave song.
suspect i am alone. but there is such excellence in that 4 mins that even after 100's of listens that song still send shivers up my spine. new compilation out on $tateside with this and others .. but nowhere near as good as that one track.
of new stuff .. dj aristocat and thats about it.

mark e (mark e), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i am just now getting a chance to hear it Roger but i hear a violin & i am quite pleased.I still think on all her solo stuff she tends to take everything at too much the same tempo but this has a very Dirty Three sound(the violin).Besides i guess you don't go to Thalia for a good time.It also kind of reminds me of old Geraldine Fibbers.I'll be on Slsk all night so you can grab it from me.I'm actually getting the last 4 songs now.I can't remember my user name for the life of me.Either speedguru or captain groovy or possibly joe public. It's one of those.Either way i really like the album!!

evan chronister (evan chronister), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)
