don't you think cLOUDDEAD's "Cloud Dead Number 5 pt 1 and 2" is better than anything M83 by M83

I think so, but maybe I should listen to "Run Into Flowers" again (or name me a better M83 song).

Pass the bong, ho ho ho.

I mean, I know no one cares...

They don't rap on either track btw.

(and I fuck up thread titles everytime)

This comparison is almost C*l*m-esque.

Every track on M83's "Dead Cities ..." is better than anything I've heard from cLOUDDEAD.

I'm not trolling at all. They sound very similar, actually.

the songs I mentioned, that is. maybe a little less intense and more weeded out.

Oh, THESE tracks, OK (I didn't make the title -> connection when I first opened the thread).

The nice thing about cLOUDDEAD (in general) is their lo-fi, um, "techniques" spread a warmth over their records. Whereas M83's stuff sounds brighter, clearer, and in a way, more synthetic (not meant to be a pun on "synth", sorry).

Still, the dense blare of most M83 (on "Dead Cities" moreso than their debut) really stands out for me. And cLOUDDEAD could never do something as triumphant and anthemic as "Run Into Flowers" or "0078h" (not like they've tried, though).

yeah I guess they are too shiny for me.

artdamages (artdamages), Friday, 10 September 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

triumphant and anthemic as "Run Into Flowers"

This does not compute.

haha.

I doubt Ned can come down on any side of this.

As I noted on the Best of the 00's thread, "Run Into Flowers" is a bigtime "fist in the air" track for me. I guess that does seem sort of wierd.

I think a fuck of a lot of things are better than either... (although the Midnight Fuck remix by Jackson of "Run Into Flowers" is quite amazing.)

The Cult's "She Sells Sanctuary", for example.

Baybeh needs to run back to the cult latest post. As far as M83 goes I cannot wait to see them play in SF Sep. 17th. I might even smoke "the devil weed" beforehand. And Ulrich to boot. I just hope they are more exciting than the Orb.

Clouddead rinses shoegaze through the hip hop filter. M83 takes Daft Punk/Motorbass/Air/MBV/Tangerine Dream through the same filter.

One should mention Telefon Tel Aviv for doing the same thing. Beautiful.
