Hot 8 Brass Band, my favorite New Orleans band (and hence my favorite band?), put up an mp3 clip of the single from their record which FINALLY looks like it's coming out. There's also a few streaming live tunes.

It's weird to finally hear a studio recording of them, but it sounds hot!

Yeah this is ill man. What's brass band music's relationship to Nola rap and bounce music? I mean does it ever cross over? What sections are these groups all from?

It's all up in there together. You'll go into a club or a block party that's playing bounce and hip-hop, then the brass band will roll in for a set and everyone goes nuts, it's all the same.

Most of the brass bands in the city are from the Sixth Ward (see this comp, but Hot 8 and the Lil' Stooges (two of the younger bands, and my favorites right now) are from the 3rd ward, 9th ward, etc.

The music or just the vocals?

i dont know - the tuba/pp crossover just makes me think novelty act.

pp = pop

as a white guy, I've got no idea what "Skeet skeet" means. someone tell me.

I guess it's been a novelty act for 100 yrs now. I think it's bangin', but I've had that sound in my ear for the last few years.

five years pass...

I am searching to source some incredible 2nd line footage featuring the Eureka Brass Band. None of the major libraries seem to recognize it...so I'm throwing it out to fans to help with the hunt...
