Five years.

Show of hands: who among us could easily write, record and mix a Strokes record in an afternoon?

(raises hand. looks around...)

I don't think I could, but I mean that in the same sense that an animal lover couldn't shoot a dog.

Wait, are you suggesting they should hurry up with it? Take your time, boys.

I could never understand why musicians could ever possibly take this long to record an album. Regular nobody musicians with day jobs/families/ect. can turn out a full-length once a year and these jokers need five? If I had absolutely NOTHING to do but write music.... oh whatever.

Looks like the Strokes could learn a thing or two from their buddy Bob
Pollard, who puts out about 5 albums worth of material a year.

Five years.

Maybe cuz The Strokes can't actually play and need to piece everything together in Pro Tools? I liked Is This It but the band are, by all accounts, abysmal musicians.

They play fine onstage. I don't think their slothlike recording pace has to do with lack of musical talent. Though it is a little strange how much time they spend "perfecting" their sound in the studio, given how simple it ends up sounding (on the last album, at least). ("Five years" is also obviously a gross exaggeration.)

I do wish they were twice as prolific. I figure Julian just takes a long time to write the songs. Bob Pollard, he obviously ain't.
