fast song w/ guy going "go off, go off", "show off, show off" lots of scratching, a guitar riff or something, checking Brooklyn a lot (and Wall Street a lot?!)

it's really fast and really good

about to rhyme something "ole" - "pull out my amex - no, not gold"

dude, how is it a "When The Last Time" ripoff? I don't hear that at all. "Yes" is fire.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 September 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

ok re-listening now, yes, the squeals, I suppose there's a similarity, but a lot of songs have that.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 September 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you!! i was listening to some london hip hop station yesterday, don't know which one because i was listening to the kitchen radio and even though there as no bass and it sounded like shit i was pretty blown away

Memphis is in the unlikely position of having made maybe three of my top ten hip hop tracks this year ("Yes", "Everything's A Go" and "Just Bleek, Blaze & Free"). "Hypnotic" is great too. I think he's sounding great as well these days - he beats Jay-Z on "Everything's a Go" which must be some kind of first for him.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 18 September 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not sure i understand the luv for 'blaze bleek and free' really.

candour floss (mwah), Saturday, 18 September 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

er u know what i mean

candour floss (mwah), Saturday, 18 September 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah Bleek really does sound great when he gets going on certain upper BPMs. it's so easy to make fun of him or write him off, but he's always had moments like that, whether or not Jay's writing the rhymes. I'm really curious about who produced "Yes", because most of his recent stuff is by Just Blaze and 9th Wonder, and it's clearly neither of them. I love how the drums have an almost Reznor-ian noisiness to them.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 September 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dude its obv just blaze, i'm sure he even sez it in the tune?

i think i prefer fabolous 'breathe', jb-wise

candour floss (mwah), Saturday, 18 September 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, he says that it's blaze. haha most of the scratching i heard must have been the radio DJs, they were scratching on top of like almost the entire song! it was grebt

damn, you're right, I completely missed the JB shoutout until I listened for it. it's hard to spot him sometimes, dude is versatile as fuck.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 September 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
ok so it's not a "wall street" shout-out it's a "marcy" shout-out - funny how the two can sound similar

anyway I've got ANOTHER I.D. for the hedz here. today on the L train these two kids get on with a ghetto blaster and crank the wickedest old-school jam i may have ever heard.. it was almost like drum and bass, with big horn stabs, frenetic drums, unintelligible shouting.. the two kids started doing the worm, and a sort of gymnastic breakdance duet where one kid would roll up in a ball and the other kid would flip him over.. at one point they both locked limbs and formed one big ball, and rolled the length of the car, somehow miraculously navigating the staggered poles that ran through it! i was totally impressed although they both looked a little grim, not really having a whole lot of fun. when they went around for money i gave the younger kid a dollar (he was probably like 12) and i asked him what the song was. he said "scarface" and i was like "what track though?" and he looked at me like i was stupid and just goes "SCARFACE!" .. but i thought scarface wasn't that old, i didn't think he had songs like that.. is it a track? a throwback song, what?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 5 March 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it was american rap?? because there's a SOCA scarface, too.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 5 March 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think I tracked it down, it's "Scarface" by Akshen, which is what Scarface used to call himself. Pretty sure, anyway. It is totally crazy music, amazing. Can't find it w/Limewire or Acquisition tho (and I don't have Slsk)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 5 March 2005 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

YSI (although it sounds strangely familiar...? Can't place it)

djdee (djdee2005), Saturday, 5 March 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't find it, djdee, I'll post it when I do though!
