i'm going to see them at 93 Feet East tonight, i think. i only know 'Yours To Keep' which is a nice cup of twee with a Cardigan on but with enough drive to make you Wannadie.

the description in Teh Guide was quite different to how that makes them sound tho, digicore something or other. and i noticed they are currently in the Swedish (i think) Top 20.

'Yours to keep' is nothing like their other material...especially the new stuff.

d-g, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"Cobrastyle" is one of the best singles of the year.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Basically, I'm yet to hear a song of theirs I haven't liked.

omg you're telling me! dunno where to start with this lot. two drummers, possibly twins! two MCs, not bad, crazy Hivesy guitarists with neat moddish moves, Babybird bloke lookalike up front with a suit of flashing bulbs crooning with a vocoder much of the time (i was initially concerned there was no female vocalist because i only knew 'yours to keep' but he Daft Punk'd it up with the robovox brilliantly). They sounded like 100 different bands at various points ranging from Run DMC to Audioweb/Dust Junkys type affair (but better than both of those don't worry) to Gerling or The Avalanches, touching on psyche/surf-rock, big beat and DFA-style disco-rock/punkfunk along the way. they had great stage presence and they were VERY LOUD. cracking.

support band The Rubicks weren't band either, a couple of tracks in particular (can't name sadly)

teh pow! (blueski), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

there were loads of Swedes there as well, at the front going mental, which was nice

i really like "cobrastyle". so is this stuff really just more diplo-style electohop jokiness or a lot better than that or what?

one year passes...
"Yours To Keep" is very catchy. Does anyone know what their U.S. debut is entitled, and when it's being released?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 17 July 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

his Swedish trio's debut 'Soft Machine' will be released on Big Beat/Atlantic on August 22nd. Everyone seems to be torn about what their favourite song is. Is yours "Punkrocker" featuring Iggy Pop? The soothing "Yours to Keep" with both Annie and Nenah Cherry? The undeniably catchy "Cobrastyle" with Mad Cobra?

Whatever it is, be sure not to miss Teddybears on their first trip to the states for DJ and live sets.

7/25 New York, NY @ Happy Endings (DJ set)
7/27 Chicago, IL @ TBA
7/28-29 San Francisco @ TBA
7/31 Los Angeles, CA @ The Standard [Sunset] (DJ Set)
8/1 Los Angeles, CA @ Safari Sam's Check Yo' Ponytail (live set)
8/3 New York, NY @ Fat Baby (live set)
8/4 New York, NY @ Annex (DJ set)

Gonna try for that August 3rd show, meself.

And I now regret not editing out the hype, but still.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 04:48 (nineteen years ago)

I was mildly confused since the PFork review. Has "Yours To Keep" been re-recorded with Neneh and Annie? Because the original was on their 2000 album.

TS: Teddybears STHML's "Hey Boy" vs the Blog 27 and the Torgny Melens covers.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 05:51 (nineteen years ago)

i love 'Hey Boy' (but not as much as 'Little Stereo') - what are these covers you mention ed?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

Well, they're covers of "Hey Boy" by the aforementioned artists, one a pair of rubbish Polish teen girls, the latter, by a dansband.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

I think ITGroove once posted the Polish cover, except that I don't have it anymore on my comp. So I must not have thought it was as good as the original. < / Sherlock Holmes >

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

(Torgny Melins have, actually, done an entire album of STHLM covers. "Cobrastyle" is a complete triumph.)

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

That's...quite a niche record.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

Edward, any chance of posting this triumph of a cover version in Another Place?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

PLZ PLZ PLZ (wot matt sed)

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure what they're calling the US release (I supposedly have a promo en-route), but the official release date is confirmed for September 12. Oh, and the band is henceforth to be known just as "Teddybears", no more STHLM.

Avi (Avi), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Matt, Alan, be checking your emails in a few minutes.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

*cough*

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't you get this off teh pop COMMUNITY in feb?

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
new version of 'Yours To Keep' as free download on Pitchfork featuring ANNIE but NOT Neneh Cherry. not heard this yet so unsure how or if they managed to improve on one of the best songs of the last 10 years (ok might be getting a BIT carried away...)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

It isn't really one of the best songs of the last 10 years, is it?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

it's like Thomas The Tank Engine.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

New, free Teddybears single "Get Mama a House": http://bit.ly/FTfPC - type "teddybears" and then click the righthand button on the next page.

Cool little summertime jam.

From It's a Trap:

New Teddybears album in spring

There's a new Teddybears album called "Devils music" coming in late March/April and it will reportedly feature a collaboration with Atlanta-based rapper Cee Lo and The B52s on the same track, among other treats I'm sure.
