Serg said the whole blues = hip-hop thing sounds like a song Nas would do for sesame street and I think he's right but all the same you can't deny that beat. I also like that this song seems so retrospective, like Nas realizes his best days are behind him.

LOVE It!!!

that's a hotter beat than it sounds on paper....

like the off beat snare hits....it's like Jon Specer blooz....good verse too....

it's probably a cooler vers. of some of the stuff that timbaland was trying to do on the bubba aparx record

I wonder if he's sampling his dad.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 24 September 2004 21:41 (nineteen years ago) link

it's such a generic blues riff it could be anybody....Jeff Healy maybe!

the singing and trumpet is clearly his dad, the sample itself could be anybody. Rest in peace, ray charles.

"Cops Shot the Kid" is fucking great

is it really? Nas' verse seems pefunctory, Kanye's is not good

gave this album a spin yesterday, Nas by the numbers, which is ofc OK but not nearly as good as Life is Good on first listen, also the Kanye aesthetic does nothing for Nas (quality-wise, that is - it may very well help to introduce him to a younger demographic)

perfunctory*

Kanye's production is so indulgent, really dislike when he over-repeats some simple motif/sample as if it's really clever (most obv example would be the Runaway intro but on this Nas album you get the same thing with the "I think they scared of us" chorus on the first track, which is m/l sonically empty for me)

similar to what Daft Punk did on Robot Rock, plain annoying

yeah seems like 7 random Nas tracks with not that great production

Life is Good had a lot more interesting production

kanye's verse isn't 'bad' on cops shot the kid, altho ppl keep interpreting it as unwoke in this really shallow way

the album as a whole, though, is bad

what the hell does "Fox News was started by a black dude - also true" mean?

gotta love the vaccine talk

A parent hates to watch his baby's face
Takin' his first immunization shots, but this is great
The child's introduction to suffering and pain
Understands without words
Nothin' is explained or rushed to the brain
Lookin' up at his parents' face
Like, "I thought you would protect me from this scary place?"
"Why'd you let them inject me?"
"Who's gonna know how these side effects is gonna affect me?"
