I'm not too sure as to what you mean but I'll try to give an answer

"Dimond Dogs" David Bowie

If I remember correctly, there's some cheering at the begining.

Correct me if this is not what you want.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Bennie & the Jets" by Eltonio Juan

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Several tracks on The Wall by Los Floydos el Pinko

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

There's that little bit in the middle-eight of "Spirit of the Radio" by Rush wherein his large-snozzed Geddness sings, "the words of the prophets were written on the studio wall.....CONCERT HALL!", cueing in a fake crowd noise.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What about "Blood Sport" Alex?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

not a rock song, but i'd say jay-z - "encore" should work

lemin (lemin), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

What about it? That's just them fucking about in the studio (channeling NEU!).

hey, I interviewed Big Paul Ferguson a couple of weeks back, btw.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn.

How's he been? What has he been doing, really?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

primus, "the return of sathington willoughby" and "professor nutbutter's house of treats"

f ath, Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

He's been fine. He restores sculpture for a living now, and still plays music (most recently for a band called Superdeformed).

here's me and the great man now, actually:

alex, where/when is that interview going to be published?

jake b. (cerybut), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Rasputina - "Ye Olde Headboard"

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Gram Parsons - "Medley Live from Northern Quebec"

brian patrick (brian patrick), Saturday, 25 September 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It's "words of the profits", Alex!;)

I think Sonic Youth's "Eric's Trip" and "Wish Fulfilment" both manage to do this without actually using samples of actual crowd noise but instead using guitar noise to achieve the same effect. In WF, it works to simulate the stadium cheering the superstar the lonely face-in-the-crowd pines for. In ET, it kind of feels like being inside the mosh pit at a punk show while high and trying to piece everything together.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 25 September 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

There's that one bit in Neil Young's "Broken Arrow" where the crowd noise comes in ... I guess right after the "Mr. Soul" quote? It sounds pretty obviously fake, anyway

Reed Moore (diamond), Saturday, 25 September 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Jay-Z "22 2's"

Symplistic (shmuel), Saturday, 25 September 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

alex, where/when is that interview going to be published?

That'd be telling. Actually, it's allegedly for a book celebrating the band's 25th anniversary. Details will follow at some point......I hope.

drew, Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, t.

Was it Simon Frith who said that Husker Du's covers of 60s pop songs (e.g. "Ticket to Ride") actually made them sound like, e.g. the experience of seeing the Beatles at Shea Stadium with overloaded amps and screaming fans.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 25 September 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"give it up or turn it loose" james brown -- taped audience noise at beginning. faked live effect to fit in w/actual live tracks on sex machine LP.
"train kept a rollin'" aerosmith. according to producer jack douglas, recorded in stairwell to simulate concert hall echo. audience sounds came from leftover "concert for bangladesh" tapes.

"Rock and Roll Band" by Boston

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

There's that one bit in Neil Young's "Broken Arrow" where the crowd noise comes in

and then there's the bizarre cover of jimmy reed's "baby what you want me to do" on young's album broken arrow, in which the fake (i think!) crowd/bar noise is louder than the song, and continues for the entire length of the song, drowning out the music.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretenders - My Baby
