Various Artists -- Matador At Fifteen double CD + DVD
OLE-623
October 12, 2004

Matador's fifteenth-anniversary compilation consists of one CD of "greatest hits", one CD of rarities and unreleased tracks, and a DVD of music videos, all roughly from the period 1999-2004.

The three discs come housed in an exquisite embossed laminated fold-out laminated digipak which is to the word LOUD as our tenth anniversary package was to the word MUTED. Additionally there is a 20-page booklet recounting many of the highlights of the past five years via original documents.

The price will be the same as a single regular full-price CD -- what we in the record world call "15.98 list", which means anywhere from 11.99 to 14.99 for you indie shoppers, and as much as 17.98 for those few who still patronize the mall outlets of the dwindling major music specialty chains. Assuming there are any in stock there, which is mostly fairly unlikely.

no dust devils? surely they are the greatest matador band ever.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 26 September 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

No activity for the dust devils on Matador between 1999-2004 = no inclusion on the comp.

Can anyone tell me why there's no Arab Strap on here?!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 26 September 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

just what the world needs... preston school of industry rarities.

Cripps Pink (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

haha yeah this is pretty wack.

I still sweat What's Up Matador is a terrific comp, though.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

for some reason I doubt this will do to Interpol fans what What's Up did for me way back when.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The 10th anniversary comp is excellent. I bought "Lapsed" after hearing "Flux" on that comp, which kickstarted my Bardo Pond fandom.

What happened to all the electronic music? The 10th anniv. comp. was full of it. And did they REALLY need to include a JSBX song this time around?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

where's dizzee?

Symplistic (shmuel), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

How did he even get on Matador?

When was that live version of "Fame and Fortune" recorded?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened to all the electronic music? The 10th anniv. comp. was full of it.

I think most of that was based on their now-nullified partnership with Warp. Over the last five years they've dropped most of their attempts at electronic and rap. I mean where's the Large Professor?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

They were also in with the Cologne crew -- releasing albums by Burger/Ink and the Modernist. I wonder what happened there?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

they didn't sell?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Did those albums come out since the 10th anniversary comp, though?

I seem to remember Gerard saying in 1999 that inclusion on the label comps was something left up to the artists' discretion.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i didn't notice the 1999 thing, though i was being sarcastic anyhow.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully the 20th anniversary thing will encompass ALL TWENTY YEARS, not just 2004-2009.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Greatest "Hits"

Free the Bee (ex machina), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the name of this song Pretty Girls Make Graves - C-30 C-60 C-90 GO!, but I plan to never hear it in my life, ever.

artdamages (artdamages), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty sure that PGMG track is a Bow Wow Wow cover

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

When Everything Is Nice came out, I didn't have to think twice about whether or not I was gonna buy it; I did, and wasn't disappointed. This time, I dunno.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, yeah it sounded familiar (xpost). they should be covering bow wow wow on their albums in that case.

artdamages (artdamages), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how "Specialist" is Interpol's default Unreleased Rarity.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Looking forward to the rare New Pornographers song, though the A.C. Newman one has been available via iTunes for some time (and it's great)

Taxi Dancing in the Soft Prison (Ben Boyer), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)
