alternately, please relate instances of fairly obscure stuff being used in ads as it would help with my research (ie. the flirtations' 'nothing but a heartache' being used in a kfc zingers spot)

For a short period, Taco Bell was using a Man or Astroman song in one of its ads, but they changed that fairly quickly, if I recall correctly.

"Complicated Fun" by the Suicide Commandos (as covered by the Magnolias) in a Target ad? Not really that obscure, I guess -- esp. if you're from the upper midwest.

rte (irish national broadcaster)obviously have some hipsters on board,i've seen stuff like boards of canada,mogwai,various techno tracks and even,if i didn't imagine it,oval,at one point in their ads...
