Sonny Sharrock and the Starlites

Anyone know anything about this? I downloaded 10 tracks apparently by this group from Sonny Sharrock's 1953 Rythm & Blues Revue Saalfelden 1990. I can't find any info on it on the WWW, though it seems the Starlites are a 60s R&B group. It's quite good, like straightforward blues/old R&B-type stuff with a lot of trademark Sharrock feedback guitar in his solos.

He introduces the band:

Tenor sax: Eric Lawrence
Kbrds: Dave Snider
Bass: Charles Bolan (?)
Abe Speller
Lance "Romance" Carter

He instructs the crowd to act and feel like they're at the Apollo Theatre in 1955.

is this because of the boredoms thread?

Whaaaaat?? Never heard of this. How did you find it, Sundar? Just doing slsk searches on Sonny or something?

From a Poisoned search on "Sharrock". I haven't read the Boredoms thread. Is there info there?

Wait, that was just a trick to get me to read the Boredoms thread, wasn't it?

It's weird, Roy. They do "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" and "In the Still of the Night" with soulful vocal arrangements and everything.

I interviewed Sonny once. He had 'The Girl Can't Help It' on in the background.

I've got a ton of Sonny, never heard of this. What/Where is Poisoned?

I put up 3 tracks on my Geocities page for your perusal:

"03" - some good guitar noise

"Guitar Blues" - cool solo

"What Ya Gonna Do?" - vocal track

Poisoned is kind of like a (lesser?) Mac equivalent of SLSK.

np: Prince - Musicology

I think you need to wait an hour before trying to access those because the server's exceeded allowable data transfer or somesuch.

They work! What you need to do is copy the link location into your address bar, delete the ".mp3" at the end of the URL, and hit enter.

what do you want to know.

When and where is the recording from? Is it commercially available or a bootleg or what? How did this matchup come about? Did they just play together for one gig or make more recordings? Has this group done a lot without SS?

Thanks a lot.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Also how many tracks are in the whole recording? I downloaded 10 tracks labelled 02 - 11. I assume there's a track 1 I'm missing? Are there others? What is the track list?
