Somewhat inspired by Alex in NYC's comments in the Kid Rock v. The Boss thread, what good ol' American redneck do the ILXors dig. Its pretty easy to predict what y'all would destroy, so please don't pull out the elephant guns. What redneck rock will you admit to liking..... Alex in NYC and Ned to thread....

My prediction: lot of love for the Drive-By Truckers.

wet willie. some marshall tucker band. skynyrd, of course. the allman brothers didn't strike me as redneck, actually--too much knowledge of jazz. gary stewart is redneck rock, i think. hank jr.'s amusing songs like "country boy can survive"--new york is too impersonal and noisy for him, and you can get killed! i have barely listened to drive-by truckers, i prefer red sovine myself.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Drive-By Truckers definitely lack in the supernatural-visitation-by-dead-transport-professionals department.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to mention the little-kids-named-for-stuffed-animals department.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Search: Amazing Rhythm Aces.

briania (briania), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, first amazing rhythm aces album. not exactly redneck, more like post-pot country with r&b influence, but very nice indeed.

red sovine makes me laugh immoderately, that whole bit about phantom 409 is too much. i hear his stuff all the time on WSM, the country station here in nashville.

Yeah, and what was the single from the second Aces album? "The End is Not in Sight"? That's a nice one, too. Terrific "feel" on those records.

I really only know a handful of Sovine things. Does he have a whole series of ghost-story kind of stuff? 'Cause that is for sure a subgenre he could *own*.

TS: Truck-driver records vs. Western/cowboy poetry records. Now where's that Dick Curless CD? . . .

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, re-reading Eddie's posts reminded me of 'Hank Williams Jr. and Friends,' the album where he first went off the range. And 'Tompall and His Outlaw Band' has gotta count, too.

ozark mtn daredevils: "jackie blue" and "if i only knew." sort of like harpers bizarre/nilsson taking a hike in northwestern arkansas, actually. strange pop.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Friday, 1 October 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Late to this. I'd say NASHVILLE PUSSY, although not so much since Corey Parks left the band.

Beyond that, I'm a New Yorker, and we New Yorkers frown on redneckery.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 2 October 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I reckon REAL rednecks don't listen to music much, just watch TV,
