WARNING! Bad Song Brain Takeover Alert!

Ever get a song stuck in your head? Sure. We all have.
The problem is alot of times it's a really crappy song that you hate.
Example:
Included amongst a bunch of "c86" tunes I pulled off of Soulseek was a painfully cheesy retro song called "A Question of Temperature" by a painfully cheesy retro band called the Balloon Farm.
After a couple of listens I determined this song to be utter ass.
And it has been running through my head on an unending loop, non-stop, for the last 48 hours.
Somebody please shoot me.

Or better yet, share with us your similar horror story, so we can all commisterate.

My defense mechanism for getting a crappy song stuck in your head is to start singing "Queen of Hearts" - (Juice Newton version.) It's kind of like the old lady who swallowed a horse because she had swallowed a fly .. but I call it home.

the most surefire tactic for removing a song stuck in your head, according to my boyfriend, is the following, but beware, it is STRONG MEDICINE:

1) empty the mind of any distractions
2) sing the chorus of "Karma Chameleon"
3) repeat as necessary

Tried that. It didn't work.

Now I want to hear this "Question of Temperature" song.

Dee, it's pretty easy to come by -- on the "Nuggets" box, I believe.

For the last year, Jermaine Stewart's "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" has been torturing me when I least expect it.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

For me, the worst cases are when I barely know the song in question, so a single line gets stuck on a loop - not even the hook, just a random line from a verse - and I don't have a clue what follows it. Argh.

I thought this thread said Bad Brains The Big Takeover.
I must be going dyslexic.

Sorry. I think I should remind everyone, the version of which I speak is a cover version made in 1986, not the original from 1967.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

good cuz the original is def. not ass.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

WAIT A SEC, I CALL SHENANIGANS
by a painfully cheesy retro band called the Balloon Farm.

The Balloon Farm version is the original version, WTF?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

As discussed in This Thread, there's (according to other members on ILx) two different bands called Balloon Farm. One is a garage rock band from the late 60s, the other is some anorak-wearing trainspotter band from 1986. The version of the song I heard was (again, according to other members on ILx) the version by the anorak band.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Faux-Balloon Farm covered the real Balloon Farm then? MY BRAIN HURTS!!!

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Human Sexual Respone, The Lords of the New Church and the Space Negroes have all done covers of this song as well.

Now you know how I've felt for the last 24 hours.
I've been playing "...and Justice for All" at mind shearing volumes through headphones and that shitty Balloon Farm song STILL keeps coming back!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 1 October 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Today it was Elton John's "Your Song", having heard it against my will on the radio at work one too many times. I'm not saying I can't think of worse songs, but is that any reason for it to haunt me for hours on end? AWAY PEST AWAY!!
