I know it's not really what gets talked about here, but does anyone know where I could find the chords for THE PUPPY SONG and/or FAIRFAX RAG? Or some other message board where they discuss this stuff? Cheers.

three years pass...

Wow, ha ha, I used to have a lot of these transcribed, they're all written down on various scraps of paper. I rehearsed a Tribute to Harry Nilsson gig for months, which we never even got round to playing! Nice to play on keyboards, if, like me, you can't really play keyboards - except "Gotta Get Up", that's a bugger that one.

I ended up working out Fairfax Rag and performed it a couple of times with my band. We've done Think About Your Troubles Too but I never got around to doing The Puppy Song. I also found a couple of books of Nilsson songs in the library - including one which was co-authored by R Buckminster Fuller. That's a weird combination.

Our "Midnight Cowboy" medley was a killer. Starting with "Cowboy"; brief snatch of "Theme From Midnight Cowboy" (a la "Nilsson Sings Newman"); "I Guess the Lord Must Be In New York City"; ending with "Everybody's Talkin'".

I play the piano and playing Nilsson songs is really fun cos they usually have simple riffs but really interesting basslines or chord progressions. On the other hand it's almost impossible to do justice to the songs when compared with the originals. Especially the singing.

xpost Damn, I've always thought about learning "Gotta Get Up"!

I"m pretty sure that's in the Buckminster Fuller book. It's all songs from Nilsson Schmillson and Son of Schmilsson. I've got to borrow that book again sometime. There's some guy's website somewhere with a few songs too. Can't seem to find it though.

Maybe somebody could get Rikky Rooksby on the job.
