RIP: Metathread

I always find it a little disconcerting that the RIP threads often almost completely consists of a string of expletives. I realize people are registering their initial shock and sadness, but it doesn't seem appropriate. Maybe it's a generational thing. I admit I can be a little inconsistent about obscenity. I'm certainly not against it. But as an expression of mourning?

Well, it's more one of those "Jeez Louise, Death, you come around and take away all these other folks for no reason, why him/her as well?" expressions.

The beauty of expletives is that they can be applied to almost any situation.

personally when someone of reverence passes i don't feel like i have to curse or just echo what someone has already said or state the obvious, but it's not for me to judge others on how they express grief

Death used to be as taboo as swearing, so their connection is natural.
