Hi, I am looking for recomendations for good books and articles about Japanese head music artists, from Damo Suzuki (any before him?), through Yellow Magic Orchestra, to Merzbow, to Ghost/Boredoms/White Heaven/Acid Mothers Temple & Melting Paraiso UFO/Ruins and any others.
I would be most grateful to anyone who could recomend to me any good books or articles, in print or online, on these artists or any I haven't mentioned. Thank you very much.

Jim DeRogatis writes about some in his book Kaleidoscope Eyes, though that book isn't the greatest. There's Martin Strong's Psychedelic Discography, too, for facts and discographies. Good luck.

The best (only?) book out there is "Japanese Independent Music" - put out by Sonore in 2001. Also comes with a nice smapler CD. Here's the link:

It doesn't bother with chart pop like Yellow Magic Orchestra, but does extensively cover the psychedelic undeground (PSF label, Haino, White Heaven, Ruins, etc.)

has plenty of info on psychedelic music from Japan (and New Zealand), certainly everyone you mentioned except YMO
