In honor of the CRCR 10th anniversary...

so which of Pave's infamously tossed-off covers are your favorites??
Include any from the reissues, b-sides, Peel sessions, even live stuff traded or seen first hand.

I'll probably get a good tongue-lashing from the Echo & the Bunnymen fans, but I've really been digging the "Killing Moon" cover from the Major Leagues single (er, e.p?)

Will (will), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I've heard a stillborn version of Joy Division's - "Disorder".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus -- are there good quality MP3s of these covers?! I didn't know they did these (except for Killing Moon, which yes, is great)

Clusterfuck at the Baja Fresh Salsa Bar (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't they do "The Classical" by The Fall? I've never heard it though...

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm trying to remember if pavement did "let the good times roll" or if it was just malkmus

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Malkmus do "I Will Dare" once and it was great but really left me wishing that Pavement had done it.

identity theftor (deangulberry), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't they do "The Classical" by The Fall? I've never heard it though...
They did do the Classical, with completely different lyrics. It's surprisingly good. It's the only post Wowee Pavement I've felt the need to own.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

malkmus's take on 'death and the maiden' is awful

their take on the clean's 'odditty' is pretty cool though

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This is my favorite one:

Expressway to Your Skull, Something, and um they do a pretty good 7 Chinese Brothers.

Who sings on Tuesday's Gone? That's my favorite but the Malkmus doesn't sing lead on it. Anyone know who does?

danh (danh), Thursday, 28 October 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuesday's Gone was done by the Crust Brothers, which was Malkmus with Silkworm.

beaty (beaty), Friday, 29 October 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The lyrics to Ruthensmear's "Golden Boys" were actually written by Darby Crash (thank you Ira Robbins).

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 29 October 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, forgot "No More Kings."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm goin' out...I'm gonna find myself a....GIRL/Find myself a woman, I won't give up, I won't give up in any way, shape, or form..."

I can't recall who wrote this or what the title is but I know it was a cover.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

That is the Buzzcocks "Love Is Lies"... great song. It's on Love Bites

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks. Didn't have my copy of "Appetite For Deconstruction" handy.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

When I saw this thread title I could only think of the Tindersticks cover of Here, but I think I got the wrong end of the stick somehow.

Davel (Davel), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't refer to him as "the Malkmus" by the way. that was a mistake

danh (danh), Friday, 29 October 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)
