Scott Stapp at the World Series

So, they trotted out the ex-Creed guy to sing "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch. Um, what gives? Isn't he from Florida? Doesn't he suck? Doesn't everyone realize that?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

no, he's a millionaire. such is life.

From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors (AaronHz), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought he was pretty good

duke show, Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

He was definitely brief, and brief is very, very good!

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

That was soooooooooo awful. I am sure all the 13 yr olds who buy Creed records thought it was really emotional and deep, the way he sucked in his breath in postured pain between god, bless, and america. this guy needs to be recycled.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless, of course, he had his shirt off and he was greased up, in which case he could have taken his time. Though I'm not sure he had it in him. He was all breathy and shit, and it sounded like it hurt to sing, and ... what? What's that you say? He was just being soulful?

OK, never mind.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

glad I missed it.

From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors (AaronHz), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

brutal.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

he actually made me long for Ronan "dumbo" Tynan, which I didn't think was possible.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I admit for a second I thought this would be a picture comparison with Johnny Damon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

scott stapp plays for the redsox?

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

this guy needs to be recycled.

I believe the word you were actually looking for was 'disembowled'.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still trying to remember the name of the spiked ass torture device from the Spanish inquisition. He needs that.

From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors (AaronHz), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno about no ass device, but I'd be glad to see him broken on the wheel

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

WITH ASS WIDE OPEN

(sorry)

(well, not really)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

iron maiden

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that would be something.

Pangolino (ricki spaghetti), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

-- Disco Nihilist (current31...), October 28th, 2004.

you're right, bruce dickinson should have sung the national anthem instead.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Bruce Dickinson would have been FUCKING AWESOME.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Thursday, 28 October 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I always tune out "God Bless" regardless of who's singing, but I'll bet he was fine with it, being really down with God & America and all that. The first time I became aware of Creed was when they were performing the halftime show at some football game on teevee (my nieces were all, "Oooh, it's Creed!"). I think he/they are perfect for this kind of thing, just not for music that you actually want to listen to.

But Steven Tyler singing the anthem ought to be constitutionally outlawed.

RIP Robert Merrill, in case it hasn't been noted here, yet. Got to hear him at a Yankee Stadium opener one year, and it was splendid.

briania (briania), Thursday, 28 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The lowlight of my night. I wished one of the players walked over to Captain Creed and used his useless head as a tee ball.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

No wonder the Cards got swept.

earlnash, Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to hear him give "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" the same treatment.

Making the punishment fit the crime.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

A lot of players actually use Creed as their at-bat music. Nobody on the Cardinals or Red Sox, though.

Maybe the Cards wanted to bring out someone who sucks worse than they do.

Talent Explosion (Talent Explosion), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: Scott Stapp vs. that fat asshole that sung the unnecessarily longer version of God Bless America at the Yankees stadium during Playoffs

both were earfuls of torture.

Scat Stopp, Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Canadians despair: he's using the Tea Party as his new back-up band.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys are overlooking something v. important

The Florida Marlins managed to win two World Series without a theme song, but, as SB Nation's Ryan Hudson points out, that didn't stop them from enlisting the help of rapper Pitbull for some inspiration heading into the 2009 season.
