I am listening to this today. I know that all the tracks are essencialy the same song written over and over. But this album is too fun to be dud. I am starting to think it is a lost masterpiece.

I may need to listen to some Stravinsky or Miles Davis Cds to return to my good sense. but I think this album is unbelievable...

I was about 12 when Unbelievable came out and I was at school in the Forest Of Dean. I seem to remember everybody had an older sister that was going out with a member of EMF.

It wasn't a great album, but the singles were good. "Children" was my favourite (despite the embarrassingly shit lyrics). I've still got that single on 12" vinyl somewhere.

Haven't heard the album, but the singles are great. "Unbelievable" is one of the best of the decade.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a great album, EMF were only ever really a one-trick pony - but it was quite a good trick the first couple of times 'round and they were enormous fun live.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

This album is a pet hate of mine. Particularly when, after years of painful isolation as the only indie kid in my school, the worst bitches in my year discovered they were 'EMF fans' and made a huge fucking deal about going to see them live (even making an EMF banner in art class). Not the band's fault, but then their music was appalling as well, so I feel justified in my h8.

oh man someone w/ time unearth Alex in NYC's classic story about his review of this album back in the day

jake b. (cerybut), Thursday, 28 October 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It used to be my favourite album. I had an oversize EMF t-shirt. I can't imagine what I'd think if I heard it now.

Alex's story (the entire thread is great, too)

i used to play football with the guitarist (can't remember his name). Wouldn't go in goal in case he damaged his fret fingers...

bob summers, Friday, 29 October 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 29 October 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i never got the album, just got the unbelievable cassingle

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 29 October 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

in 5th grade they were my third favorite band behind REM and INXS. I was nuts about capital letters, I guess.

ten years pass...

I just realized the absolute worst component in EMF is the singer guy's sleepy out-of-breath barely-singing voice. I'd been distracted by the cornball music for 24 years.

then I take you are not interested in James releasing a new solo album a few weeks ago.

can't say I'm overly keen either, but clearly there is a few who are as it was one of those pledge releases.

I sat through one of his videos where he was explaining the latest happenings of the recordings, and it was painful to watch.
