Ladies and gentlemen, the dream we all dreamed of Boy vs Boy in the World Series of gay!

i go with Pet Shop Boys. Though Jimmy Sommerville is a classic.

Well, Bronski Beat have had some nice tunes but there really is no competition here, the Pet Shop Boys win this by a LOOOONG shot. Just consider their longevity, the number of hits, the gorgeous melodies, the brilliant lyrics and arrangements, the fabulous live shows; there's just no comparison.

you're joking, yeh? PSBs all the way. the bronskis were ace ... but like seb says, there is no comparison at all.

The Pets, no question.

Had the Bronskis stayed together longer, this might be an interesting competition, but alas, their catalog is dwarfed by the PSB's.

throw in the communards and jimmy sommerville solo and i'd still take the pet shop boys.

"for a friend", though, is better than anything on (topically similar) behavior.

If you had to take only one song from either PSBs or BB, it's going to be "Smalltown boy" so I reckon BB's career highlight is higher, but agreed, for sheer quantity the Pet Shop Boys have it...

At my "alternative" gay club nights in 87/88, you could divide the people there neatly down the middle: Communards fans or Pet Shop Boys fans. The former were more outspoken and directly politicised (Lenin badges on black MA1s); the latter were more reflective, nuanced...and affluent (designer togs, matt black dreamhomes). The former criticised the latter for their complacency and complicity; the latter yawned at the former's relentlessly dour and prosaic stridency.

Bronski Beat & The Communards went down much better on my dancefloors than the Pet Shop Boys, with the exception of the Disco Mix of "What Have I Done To Deserve This". Everybody sort of met in the middle with Erasure, who were liked but never loved.

another TS, i know, but i'd rather listen to Communards than Bronski Beat.
