Jesus and Marychain's first post-Psychocandy single, vs iggy in full on crooner mode with that broad from the B-52's, or Malcom's last stab at rock management with The Ants minus Adam AND a 14 lebanese girl covering The Strangeloves.

it is a tough call on so many different levels.

I find Iggy's "Candy" unbearably unlistenable. "Some Candy Talking" is nice, but it's not the Mary Chain's finest hour. I'm going with Bow Wow Wow.

Annabella is not Lebanese, by the way. She's Burmese.

"Candy Girl" by New Edition.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I pick JAMC, if I can't pick "Snacks and Candy" by Miracle Legion.

BIG MAYBELLE - "CANDY"!!!

briania (briania), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

'Kandy Pop' by Bis.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

JESUS AND MARY CHAIN!!!

Like, duh. I had a "Some Candy Talking" poster on my wall from the age of 15 to 27, when I left it in the posession of my former housemate, who promised to take better care of it than I could.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Which I still am, thank you very much! Oh, and JAMC, of course.

kaliflwr (kaliflwr), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm quite certain that 'Candy Man' by the Mary Jane Girls stomps all over every other song mentioned on here.

Affectian (Affectian), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Nu uh! "Candy Girl" by New Edition. Sugar-sweet 1980s Jackson 5 revivalism with awesome bodypopping and basic rapping wins everything everywhere ever.

Iggy finished a distant third here. The other two are quite evenly matched. "Some Candy Talking" is a wonderful single, very underrated IMO. But JAMC had many finer moments in a long career, whereas BWW burned out quickly, so BWW get my sympathy vote. I can vote for JAMC some other time, whereas this might be my only chance to support BWW.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, it's simple: Compare ANY two random songs, one with Bo Diddley (or Burundi, whatever) beats, and one without; and 90% of the time the Diddleybeat song will win. So, I'll take Annabelle and the boys. But "Some Candy Talking" (that's the actual title, wasn't it?) is good too - in fact, I've got a theory that ANY song with the word "candy" in the title is great. So I'll assume that the Iggy song, which I've never heard, is good, too. (That "candy" rule also applies to the words "tambourine" and "Detroit", incidentally.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to be odd man out here and say the Pop/Pierson "Candy" is my favorite, I love that song.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Extrapolating from the Myonga title theory, a song called "Detroit Tambourine Candy" would be the greatest thing ever.

briania (briania), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Magnetic Fields "Candy" shouldn't be ignored here. But of these three, JAMC wins.

Guayaquil, Friday, 29 October 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I was all set to go with JAMC, but there's no arguing with the "Diddlybeat Trumps All" theory.

Bren (Bren), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

JAMC wins for me, though I think I may have gotten into Iggy due to "Candy".

Another one for the list: Dirtbombs, "Candy Ass".
