Who Here Likes the new IQU?

I caught them opening up for Cornelius in 1999 and really liked their first album, then I didn't hear about them for a long time. The EP's since then felt pretty hit-or-miss, but I like the new record, "Sun Q". They sample ringtones and Egyptian lover, and there's a great recording of "Puka" which was a song I remember them playing in 1999 but hasn't been on any albums yet.

Pitchfork thinks this is a retro-Shibuya album. I'm not so sure about that, it's more dancey than kitschy.

Any thoughts?

I was gonna post pretty much the same question! I lile the first album (as ICU) alot, and read two reviews for the new one that didn't tell me anything. Who's heard the new one?

I think they still have a great album in them yet. "Sun Q" falls a bit short of greatness, but if they can blend their indie electro grooves with those spacious theremin melodies (instead of segregating them) on their next album, watch out.

Love the new one. Deeper beats, catchier songs, really fun clever bouncy stuff.

Douglas OTM. It's definitely a different beast from Chatto Matte A Moment, but I think this album holds up well to repeat listens, which I feared it wouldn't at first. The melodies are seriously beautiful and I think at least a few tracks will appeal to Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx fans (I understand ILM has a few of those).
