OK ILMers...Stop beating around the bush and just tell me to my face that my taste in music is so goddamn shitty!

Nearly no one had voted for my top two songs and top two albums of the 90s...in fact, apart from probably only a few other votes for Wilmot, I assume that I was the sole voter for the other three. So here's your chance to rip into my choices. I'll consider it therapy.

Albums:
"Songs of Praise" African Head Charge
"Connected" Stereo MCs

Songs:
"Wilmot" Sabres of Paradise
"Antarctica" Windy and Carl

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I like "Connected". Wouldn't put it at the top of any lists or anything, but its a good album.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon. That's not really a rip!
I'm braced for much worse than that!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Both of the songs and albums I nominated failed to make the lists as well.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

same here.

:| (....), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Nancy Boy (Nancy Boy), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Only one of my songs made it, zero albums.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Both "Wilmot" and "Antarctica" are wonderful songs!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Both of the songs and albums I nominated failed to make the lists as well."
"same here."

You've got shitty taste too!?!?!?
(What were they?)

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, you obviously are retarded.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It takes one to know one.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Wilmot was one of my many epiphanies of how great music can be.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Only one of my four nomintions (Prodigy Experience) has made it so far. I seriously doubt that Kruder & Dorfmeister will make the top ten albums.

I prefer to think of my taste as UNDERGROUND and AVANT-GARDE rather than shitty.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I LOVE American Head Charge!

briania (briania), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicely done, Briania.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

That or, HOPELESSLY BOURGEOIS.

In a decade where hip hop produced challenging and ground-breaking masterpieces like "Ready to Die", "The Infamous" and "Enter the Wu Tang" one would have to be wilfully parochial or beloved of musical comfort food to pick the Stereo MCs as the best album.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Stop crying peepee. Atom and His Package wasn't even on the ballot.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

my songs did better than my albums!

Albums:

Kylie Minogue - Impossible Princess (my 30th place)
Saint Etienne - Good Humor (my 3rd place)

Songs:

Ice Cube - "Today Was A Good Day" (my 12th place)
New Order - "Regret" (my 8th place)

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

wat do thoes werds meen, jakob?

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

tommorrow i go get me sum chanallenging musik!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

My #1 was This Ascension's "August Rain," for which I am absolutely positive no one else voted.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i like african headcharge and wilmott very much. i didn't vote.

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Wooden, I put The K&D Sessions on my ballot... AS MOST HATED ALBUM!!! MUAHAHaherm.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Neither of my albums or my singles or my #1 albums pick made it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

what were they alex?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Neither my #1 single (Wish Fulfilment) or my #1 album (boatman's call) made it. Or my #2 single (Where are you baby). PITY ME!

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Wooden, I put The K&D Sessions on my ballot... AS MOST HATED ALBUM!!!

Me too.

Abdel Clave (rockist_scientist), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Enta Da Stage and The War Report and "The Hitman" and "RIP". I guess it's not particularly shocking that none of them made it. I didn't realize no one would nominate Breaking Atoms though. That was criminal.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

As I said, UNDERGROUND and AVANT GARDE. Possibly AHEAD OF MY TIME.

xpost

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think "Wilmot" was like my #32 or #33. Fucking fantastic song.

(don't know the Stereo MCs album but I adore the song)

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

So ahead of your time that you're back in 1998!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently no one else voted for any of my stuff either (not on the album poll anyway.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I've gone to the end of the universe and COME BACK ROUND AGAIN.

xpost

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Or the singles poll. Haha apparently I officially have the worst taste in music.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Songs of Praise is pure serendipity. I guess nearly all voters haven't listened to it?

cs appleby (cs appleby), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

None of my nominations made it either, yet I 22 of my 30 albums made the list, but I only own 40 of the 100. What does all of this mean?

danh (danh), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's see your whole piece of shit list. How the fuck else are we supposed to rip it apart authoritatively?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I see now that I'm not quite as pathetic as peepee. My #3 and #4 singles didn't chart, as did my #4 and #5 albums.

I nominated (together with the placement on my ballot):
James -- "Laid" (#3)
Mogwai -- "Mogwai Fear Satan" (#4)

Woob -- "Woob 11:94" (#4)
Bardo Pond -- "Lapsed" (#17)

None of them made it.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

er, My #3 and #4 singles didn't chart, and neither did my #4 and #5 albums.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I'd nominated Sainkho Namtchylak and Pan Sonic for the albums and Diamanda Galas and "Girl/Boy Song" (which did make it!) for the singles. But I see this more as proof that the rest of you have goddamn shitty taste.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Believe by Cher, Roam by the B52's, Car Wheels, and Out of Time. I can understand Car Wheels, what with the hatred of "Roots" around here, but Believe, Roam. What's up?

danh (danh), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

sundar, PanSonic and Girl/Boy made my list, so you're at least half as shitty!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"Songs of Praise is pure serendipity. I guess nearly all voters haven't listened to it?"

Is African Head Charge really that obscure??????????
I mean, the name of the board is ILOVEFUCKINMUSIC!!!!!!!!!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Or is African Head Charge HOPELESSLY BOURGEOIS?

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember my piece of shit list, unfortunately!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - I meant K&D is HOPELESSLY BOURGEOIS

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Stereo MCs were just the GLC of the 90s but with added Carphone Warehouse.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

it's okay peepee. It's a wonderful record.

cs appleby (cs appleby), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

James -- "Laid" (#3)

Actually, I was pretty surprised this didn't make it. (admittedly I only voted for it at 24, but still...)

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"In a decade where hip hop produced challenging and ground-breaking masterpieces like "Ready to Die", "The Infamous" and "Enter the Wu Tang" one would have to be wilfully parochial or beloved of musical comfort food to pick the Stereo MCs as the best album."

I looked back at the 100 albums that we voted in and didn't see too many challenging and ground-breaking masterpieces.

If I like to listen to a song or album, doesn't that make it musical comfort food? Was it "wilfully parochial" of me to pick "Songs of Praise" as my number one album?

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Boomania :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
Better The Devil You Know :(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
and so forth

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

none of my nominations made it either, and i thought i was compromising a little.

the Stereo MCs album is too good for ILM.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i only d/led "wilmot" after voting closed, i like it a lot. listened to it this afternoon, as a matter of fact.

m. (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My number 2 album (Giant Steps) never made it. Neither did my number 2 single (Lazarus)? Do you see a pattern?

I'm not putting this aberration down to my shitty taste.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anybody else vote for Prince's "Gett Off" or Sugar Ray's "Someday"?

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"GettOff", yes.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! I figured "Someday" had no chance but I was hoping "Gett Off" would gett some love.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I voted for 'Wilmot'. It's terrific, of course. People used to call it the Kia-Ora song.

I haven't heard African Headcharge in a long time. Stereo MCs are a bit rub. I've got the album before Connected - forgotten its name. Has one good track on it but the Peel session version was bettah. Never heard of Windy and Carl.

Your taste is shitty, obv.
