roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Massive Attack - Daydreaming

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Monster Magnet - "Nod Scene"

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Cypress Hill - "Doctor Greenthumb" (although let's face it, it could've been any of them)

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ayatollah Momma Please - Jesus Weeble

autovac (autovac), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day
Jimi Hendrix - Rainy Day, Dream Away

And it's not advertised as such, but I'm convinced you can hear Robert Plant taking an "actual" real-time hit in the opening seconds of Zep's "Going To California".

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(Debatable) the opening two seconds of Outkast's "The Whole World" (I think Andre's sighing, but it could be heard as a quick puff)

Dandy Warhols - one of the songs on Welcome to the Monkey House (I forget which one)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Like almost every Lee Perry track ever, but esp. the ones on Time Boom X De Devil Dead. "Wot a lot of coffing"

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a bong hit on that Madvillain song about smoking.

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovage - Sex (I'm a)..

OK, not long inhalation sounds, but it sounds like a sample of a bong. So, inhalation through water.

mike h. (mike h.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Both Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" and one of the tracks on Common's last one have echoed coughing after a hit

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The best is the opening to one of the tracks on that Rubberroom album. Incorporates the flicking of the lighter, too. But the other elements in it are so dark that it doesn't come across as typical stoner "WEEEED DUUUUDE. WE'RE GETTING HIGHHHHH, BRO" type shit.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sublime's cover of the Toyes "Smoke Two Joints"

Mescalero (Mescalero), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Lots of this throughout the Stooges 'Funhouse', nicht wahr?

Soukesian, Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dirt", debatably (though there's nothing debatable about how it's used in the Jungle Brothers' "I'm In Love With Indica").

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Limp Bizkit - Livin' It Up
Nelly - Ride Wit Me (radio edit)

Dr Benway (dr benway), Thursday, 25 November 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Devin start's his record with a big deap breath of something. I think the record ends with a cough. Also there's the one where they get pulled over for "drinking coffee," i think you can hear a "sip."

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

surprising but true; george michael's OLDER has the most blatant lighter spark/toke/inhalation/exhalation sounds on a big-time pop album. right there at the end of 'spin the wheel'. following the sound of george blazing up, the reeeeaaal relaxed beats of 'it really doesn't matter' kick in. in interviews at the time he banged on about his love of pills and weed. he's fckn ace george i love him.

Incubus- Smoking the Herb again

dana lea, Thursday, 23 March 2006 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Hard to tell what's specifically weed smoking and what's not, but Tricky (being a Massive Attack subvariant) comes to mind... "Ponderosa" and his cover of Siouxsie's "Tattoo" in particular.

And as far as cigarettes go, Einsturzende Neubauten's "Silence is Sexy" makes delicious use of long, suspended drags.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Thursday, 23 March 2006 02:32 (twenty years ago)

M-E-T-H-O-D Man! M-E-T-H-O-D Man! M-E-T-H-O-D Man! Here I am, here I am, the Method Man!

(Also a really good song.)

R_S (RSLaRue), Saturday, 28 October 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

I always thought the bubbly noise at the beginning of "Fog" by Radiohead was the sound of a water bong. But when that song came out, I was often listening to it with water bong in hand, so my judgment may be cloudy.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Saturday, 28 October 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

Massive Attack's Blue Lines is the only one that matters in this category. And I just happen to have that CD in front of me right now. I pulled it out last week. I never stop pulling out that CD. It just doesn't stay in my shelves very long.
