What do you think Galvanise (new CHEMICAL BROTHERS SINGLE)?

I think it's nicely insane - more dirty f**ked-up noise, acid breakdown, crazy dissonant wailing hook like muezzin, all in all - pretty lush

*ahem*

I realise I missed a crucial 'of' between 'think' and 'Galvanise'

Honestly, some people shouldn't be let loose with technology.

lee ward (lee ward), Thursday, 25 November 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

you sure it's not their first single you heard!? i think they're a bag a shite.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

nope, definitely the new song: Q-Tip n all

lee ward (lee ward), Thursday, 25 November 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

They are a bag of shit that grows GREAT PSYCHOTROPIC MUSHROOMS.

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Thursday, 25 November 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i dl'd it on friday but forgot to listen. am listening to it now - at least i think i am, there's no Q-Tip and i just heard a sample of Orbital's 'Funny Break' - wtf? otherwise this does sound like them but decidedly electrobreaks meh - and possibly a fake track?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it's real. I like it, though not as much as other stuff on the album.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the beat, i like the string sample, but q-tip and the "the time has come to push the button" bit are realy fuckign irritating. an instrumental would be most welcome.

:| (....), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the b-side is ace tho. what is that, a snake charmer flute?

:| (....), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Heard it last week on the radio - Absolutely awful, a dated clunky sound, naff over familiar mainstream rapping and fake indian/ asian rhythms.

The Chemical Brothers are heading for a dead end along with Prodigy - decling sales, no self respect, no ambition and rubbish music.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the Chems' album is waaaaay better than Prodigy's (or Fatboy's)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

not that it takes much, but still

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

They are all BAD ! Prodigy boring beats going nowhere, Fatboy Slim embarrassing weak rubbish dance muzak with crap vocals for Q readers

Underworld on the John Peel show back in October proved they are the only hope for big name British 90s era dance music left.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Underworld bites.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Martian, have you heard the album?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

No ! just the single - and if that's all they can come up - then there is little hope.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Martian in jumping to conclusions SHOCKER.

as I've already said a couple times, it's not all they can come up with. it's one of the album's weaker tracks. it's not a great album but I do like it, a bit more than the previous two overall.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't see Underworld making another huge exciting club track tho, unless they change their style considerably to avoid repetition. as Ronan pointed out elsewhere the current trends in dance music here suit the Chems more, but not in that they can still be a leading light in it, based on what i've heard, just trustworthy workmen.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't bought an Underworld record since Dubnobasswithmyheadman, but don't the fat electro synth sounds of their early singles kind of fit in with current trends?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not so much a sonic thing itself, just that i think Underworld have taken the trusted 'Underworld 4/4 Stormer' formula as far as it can go, so if they wanted to make a new big euphoric track it'd have to sound different enough from 'Two Months Off', 'Dinosaur Adventure 3D', 'King Of Snake' etc. to avoid a certain disappointment. something like 'Kittens' but with a bigger 'spaz' factor might work tho.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to listen to 'Spikee' now.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

There's another thread about this. "Galvanise" is pretty underwhelming, but it would be *great* if it was a 33 1/3 record pitched up to 45!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

where's the other thread?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

just found two fake files on slsk for 'Believe' and 'Marvo Ging' - just silence

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe this is the other thread:
Fingers crossed -- new Chemical Brothers album in Jan. '05

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, oh yeah

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

and what i mentioned upthread WASN'T it at all (with the Orbital sample). listening to the streamed link provided by Spencer on t'other thread now. the tempo is like 'Buzz Tracks', the 'Setting Sun' b-side, or 'Come With Us' i suppose. nice strings! not quite as good as 'Come With Us' tho on first listen.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

underworld fit in nicely with the veiled return of PROG HOUSE SYNTH WASHING. oh come on we all know Ame and stuff is heading towards this! in a good way!

I don't even want to hear the Q-Tip single but I'll buy it if Battleweapon is a b-side.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I remembered that I transferred my 'Spikee / Dogman Go Woof' to my computer a while ago, so it's on my iPod. Hurrah! I've just listened to it and I can confirm that there ought to be more of this sort of thing.
