People selling your music on eBay - c or d?

I occasionally do a vanity search and usually find at least one or two auctions of music I've released or played on. What's weird is that the stuff always sells for way more than we sell it for, and more than distributors sell it for. Other times, they don't sell at all. I was in one band who consistently sold on eBay, and now, bidding rarely exceeds one penny for those same particular CDs. Bummer.

A pal of mine who was on Matador tried to sell some of his band's old, rare, oop 7"s recently and was severely disppointed to find that no one wanted them.

How does it make you feel to see people selling your music on the 'Bay? Sad? Important? Embarrassed (in that, whoever's selling it obviously didn't WANT it for themselves)?

There can be any number of reasons why someone would be getting rid of a record. They might have gone iPod-crazy. At any rate, every time your record changes hands someone new gets exposed to it, so I wouldn't feel too sad about seeing your stuff showing up on eBay. Although seeing it up for auction with no takers is admittedly a bit deflating.

Someone sold one of my paintings on ebay. At first I was offended that they didn't want it anymore, but it sold which means someone else did which can only be a good thing.

The whole 'rare records' thing previously was "It's worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it". Now, with e-bay, its "It's worth whatever two people are prepared to bid up for it".

eBay is so random though - 'rare' stuff often goes cheap and utter shite you can pick up anywhere ends up being bumped up via a bidding war.

Matador 7"s? Of course they didn't sell!

Our first single has appeared a couple of times. The problem is, because it was a limited to 500 7" with completely different hand-made sleeves for each record, the seller seems to think that it would be an amazing rarity and thus puts them up for £10 or something stupid, not taking into account the fact that NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF US EVER. Needless to say, they don't sell.

One of our CDs turned up last year. The guy who was selling it wrote this ridiculously ott description of the music contained therein. I should have cut n pasted it and used it as part of our website. 2 good things were:

1/someone actually bought it
2/a couple of people who I'd lost touch w/. emailed me b/c they'd seen it.

All our releases are editions of 500. no one has ever heard of us either.

some records i've played on have turned up on ebay or in second hand shops. it always makes me feel incredibly chuffed - "they think somebody might want to buy that??!!?"

NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF US EVER.

You mean my CE single isn't worth ££££££ yet?
