Can't stand 'em. They butchered Stairway to Heaven

Love' em. They butchered "Stairway to Heaven".

Is there an album? I've never heard anything other than "Stairway to Heaven" (which, right, DESERVES to be butchered at every possible opportunity), and I haven';t heard their version (which I admittedly didn't like much at the time) for years, but I have always wondered about them. They're basically Frank Farian, just like Boney M and Milli Vanilli, right?

Never heard 'em myself. A cousin of mine heard "Stairway" ONCE on WRIF in Detroit in '86, after which they apparently broke the record on-air and said they'd never play it again.

I'd be interested in hearing Chuck clarify his cryptic remark re. "Stairway To Heaven" butchery, which can be taken in many ways.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, Myonga, um, my clarification is hereby that the first boring lower-register half of "Stairway" deserves to be butchered at every possible opportunity, but not the second immortal high-register half. (I doubt that clears up anything, but hey, you asked!)

Thing is, Frank Farian was generally a pretty great butcher, at least back in his Boney M days. So I have a feeling that, if I heard the Far Corp rendition now, I may well like it more than I used to.

I vaguely remember there being a little bit in the middle of their "Stairway" cover, where there was this massive wash of polyphonic synthesiser, that sounded quite thrilling. It was like horribly cliched, but very effective for all that. Other than that, the track stunk. It was a big hit overe here, so we got to hear it a lot as well. It was about 1/100 as good as "The Final Countdown" in the cheese-metal stakes.

TS: The Far Corporation vs. Will To Power

I think the original Stairway to Heaven is ok.
