Hey all,

We at http://www.staticmultimedia.com are getting more discs in than we can review and are looking for some writers to help us out.

If you're interested, e-mail me at [email protected] with a sample or two of your writing.

We now get a fair amount of albums, can get people into shows, and, if you're interested and have the ability, we can arrange interviews with artists as well.

Thanks.

This is Static in Chicago, right? Does @ugust Fort3 still work there?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

August is a writer for us, yes.

Most of the writers are in Chicago, but we have writers in NY, Boston, LV, CA, and other places as well. Not limited to one city.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

would you want an English writer?

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. One of our writers is moving to London next year as it is, so the more the merrier.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

is there anything specific you want for an example of writing?

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm a musician and a journalist in Australia
Tell me more and I might be interested

Yeah, I was about to say, a little more general info perhaps? (Also, *coughcoughpayratescoughcough* ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever review anything other than indie rock? (serious question, I'm not trolling)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

We pay 100$ for a full review, 150$ for a feature.

Hey thanks djdee, that from your own account?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's djdee?

"is there anything specific you want for an example of writing?"

Nothing specific. If you've written about music in the past, that would be ideal, but anything non-ridiculously lengthy will suffice.

"i'm a musician and a journalist in Australia
Tell me more and I might be interested"

Not much to tell, really. To start off with we have a stack of discs I can e-mail you the list of and you pick two from that list as a try out and then we can discuss further assignments.

"Yeah, I was about to say, a little more general info perhaps? (Also, *coughcoughpayratescoughcough* ;-))"

I wish the site paid right now...the editor-in-chief has nearly finished tweaking things (we had a major design overhaul a few months ago) and have begun sending out "feelers" for people to advertise (a few indie record companies are interested, I gather). I've been working for the site for nearly two years and, while I'd love to get paid (who wouldn't, right?), have at least been soothed by the free discs, shows, and the ability to speak to artists that intrigue me in some manner.

"Do you ever review anything other than indie rock? (serious question, I'm not trolling)"

Yes. Granted, it doesn't appear so, but we have a writer or two who cover hip-hop, and some of us occasionally contribute the occasional hip-hop/r&b/pop/country review, but yeah, this is another thing we're trying to do is branch out. We recently started covering metal (Adrien Begrand from popmatters wrote two great pieces for us on Iced Earth and Lacuna Coil, and another writer did one on Shadows Fall) It's easier to get albums from certain labels moreso than other ones. Some artist requests sometimes fall on deaf ears, but we have a pretty strong contact list of outside publicists and can reach out for certain things easier that way than going through the majors.

Please continue to ask questions here or direct them to me at my e-mail address of [email protected].

Thanks again.

I have had some great responses so far and want to see if I can get a few more, so forgive the *bump*

Cool deal. I will keep it in mind myself.
