this mix is also mojo's current dance album of the month. amazingly found it today for a massive 3 quid (this is retail price ..). full of dark d-n-b (or whatever ..) from touchin' bass first 10 releases all mixed up by andrea parker.
is this what you ILM people go nuts over or not .. cos i read a lot of these threads with references to all sorts of micro genres that i have little understanding of. but this mix is pretty damn fine. so what is it i'm actually enjoying ?

best track - 'freaky bitches' : andrea parker/dj assault/ dj godfather. fucking WOW.

Andrea's cool but I'm biased since she played at KUCI way the hell back in the early nineties. And great she was too.

just remembered - i picked up a promo of the mo'wax album andrea made ages back and never listened to it. what have i missed all these years !? i just filed it with all the other mo'wax stuff that sits gathering dust ..

Just got this today (it is also £3 on boomkat - more labels should do cheap samplers like this). I believe the young people call this booty bass... Lots of 808 action, electro snares and hats. And the occasional T&A reference thrown in.

Very spacious, and sounds a bit too spacious on headphones, but I reckon live that bass would make you suffer. She's playing in Brighton too - Pressure Point, end of January - so I'll find out then...

Yes, this is excellent - "Freaky Bitches" has been around for a couple of years, it was even on an Ellen Allien mix cd. I would hesitate to call it d&b, to me it sounds more like electro-funk coated with heavy bass and dark atmospheric synths.

I think discogs calls the label "ghettotech" which is pretty apt.

Kiss My Arp isn't great unfortunately. The highlights are good enough but there's not that many and they're sandwiched in between some very overlong and boring trip-hop songs which are sub-sub-portishead. Very much a bargain bin staple.

I have weiss.mix so I wasn't going to bother with this. It's hardly like the price is any kind of risk here! NOW you tell me it's good. Maybe I might. Would it compare favourably to her DJ Kicks CD?

i picked up a promo of the mo'wax album andrea made ages back and never listened to it. what have i missed all these years

spacious FX, glacial beats, endless bass, creaky samples. sort of like what you'd expect if LFO remixed portishead or massive attack. actually, a slowed-down LFO (circa "advance") with trip-hoppy touches is a pretty good reference point. if that sounds good you may want to slsk her older work, like the "melodious thunk" or "ballbreaker" eps, or the "drumulator ep" as inky blacknuss. i've got all that old shit on slsk if anybody wants it...

happy to hear about this mix cd but it's a bit late, isn't it?? i thought all the nu skool breaks people had moved on to making unkle style guitars-and-beats tracks.

whoops xpost

i guess the "sub-sub-portishead" argument is that the songwriting isn't up to par with portishead. true enough, it's really not. your mileage will have something to do with whether or not you enjoy her IDM-y production touches, whether or not you have the patience for dj vadim albums ("kiss my arp" is about that sloooooow) and how much you like big depth charge bass sounds.

the singles are much better than the album if only because they're more compact.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 7 January 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

vahid describes the good bits much better than I was able to.

So there you go :)

at least now i know what is meant by ghettotech.

i feel more complete.

the mix is special and easily worth the entry price.

i just know that this mix along with Ivan Smagghe's Suck My Decks is going to dominate the next couple of weeks. (this week i have hardly listened to anything else but that mix ... )

when i bought it the record shop dude told me (to the soundtrack of Roots Manuva's new album that is much better than the new single would have you believe !) that the label involved was kinda struggling financially ..

then again - theres no label website, no info, nothing ... and all vinyl based releases ..

surely this aint going to help the label ..

i suspect i now really need the K7! mix she put together.

unfortunately that means ebay .. not this dreaded p2p malarkey.

onwards !

at least now i know what is meant by ghettotech

yeah but this mix isn't really ghettotech at all, mark. it's just uber-bassy nu skool breaks.

here are some ghettotech tracks for you to listen to:

vahid (vahid), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

that sentence could have easily done without the "just"

vahid (vahid), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

mark if you enjoyed "nobody's perfect" you really really need fabric 08 mixed by radioactive man.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ahh .. whats an extra 'just' here and there.

ta for the pointers re ghettotech ..

xpost : now thats the kind of recommendation i need (i was soo tempted by weatheralls fabric mix till i read that thread !).

too many fabric comps/mixes have made me stay away .. but damn if you are telling me that radioactive man is the one .. then thats on my wants list ..(i always expected it to be almost too intense for my innocent ears ..

six years pass...

thoughts on here's one i made earlier anyone?

6 years on a response : love it

the space in the production, the depth in the sonics, make this all that i love about ambient techno.

i have a few days of neighbourless freedom, so the first cd to properly test the bass bins was this compilation, followed by nobodys perfect part one as i have not heard it in years.

did not even know there was a part three until an hour ago.

no doubt another glass or 2, and it will be ordered.
