anyone else noticed that current 93 and nurse with wound don't actually produce much new music anymore: just endless repackagings older albums with new bonus tracks or collections of outtakes and alternate studio versions. annoying.... i guess that have to support themselves.

well, there are the endless current 93 live albums and eps with four or five versions of the same song.

whatchutalkinbout? NWW just released four albums of new material. one a double. and if you're going to play the "alternate versions aren't 'new'" card, i'll remind you that most of NWW's catalog consists of the same riffs and raw material, endlessly rejigged and re-fucked with.

I'm really enjoying "Angry Eelectric Finger", personally. I bought the Irr.App.(Ext.) one first, and then sprang for the Jim O'Rourke one and the Cyclobe one. I'm glad I did, it's a great triptych and makes for a really good through-composed-by-accident listen.
His last big aesthetic statement was "Salt Marie Celeste", which at first struck me as a bit too empty but I've come round to really digging it. How about those NWW "hip hop album" rumours, eh?
Who's ready?

Who's distributing them anyway now that World Serpent bit the big one?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 03:34 (nineteen years ago) link

The AEF trilogy is on beta-lactam-ring so it's a US label, I just got it at Aquarius. I think there may be something getting set up with Revolver, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 03:39 (nineteen years ago) link

*nods* That's cool, I'll keep it in mind. They're a good label.

The new NWW Shipwreck Radio 2cd is staggering. Potter/Stapleton basically dropped off on arctic circle isle north of Norway -- no instruments, just minimal tools to recycle the sounds of the fishermen, birds etc. into hallucinatory mindfuck then rebroadcast over the island's radio station to freaked out residents daily. There's one heavy-rain segment seguing into a loop of a foreign-tongue babbling child that is just amazing.

oh man I didn't know that world serpent was gone, I should turn in my goth card.

Yeah...Salt Marie does grow on you.

A hip-hop album???
Is that why he was compiling old girl-rap tracks???

cs appleby (cs appleby), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 07:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Yep. I met him really briefly in Aquarius Records. Jim Haynes introduced us, and we talked exclusively about JJ Fad, LeShaun, MC Lyte, Foxy Brown, Bahamadia, LinQue, Lil Kim, The Real Roxanne, YoYo, Sister Souljah, Missy, Truth Hurts, Sarai, etc. I was about to melt into a little fanboy puddle but I tried to just chill out and brainstorm an impromptu roll call of female hip hop MCs. It was certainly surreal, but not in a Victorian top hat / Max Ernst kinda way. Which was really sweet and nice, actually.

Heard a bit of Shipwreck Radio.

Fuckin' great, and it appears I'm going to buy it.

probably the most beautiful box set I own, it's nice that this digital version includes the bonus 7" (last 3 tracks)

I hate how Bandcamp does that sometimes. I see the release date, yes, but these two have bern on there for two years now.

That's two different Bandcamp sites though. The new one seems to be Tibet's own Bandcamp while the other one is for the HOM label.

ironic considering the OP:

"anyone else noticed that current 93 and nurse with wound don't actually produce much new music anymore: just endless repackagings older albums with new bonus tracks or collections of outtakes and alternate studio versions. annoying.... i guess that have to support themselves.

Are all those three supposedly upcoming albums (Astral Crimes in the Dark House, Damn Imperium, The Astral Crimes of Stephen Hawk) reworked/tapelooped material?

Siegbran, Friday, 19 July 2024 18:13 (one month ago) link

looks like it, based on a brief search

He was certainly producing enough legitimately new work in the 00s and 10s

three albums in ten years is productive imo

in terms of the title of this thread, do not buy the purple vinyl reissue of Thunder Perfect Mind that came out about 7 years ago. unless you want to buy my copy, which I would advise you not to. it sounds like absolute shit

Colonel Poo, Sunday, 21 July 2024 01:58 (one month ago) link

Feels like the reissues and remixes are a way to fund the proper albums, which do come out fairly regularly

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Sunday, 21 July 2024 08:24 (one month ago) link

Are all those three supposedly upcoming albums (Astral Crimes in the Dark House, Damn Imperium, The Astral Crimes of Stephen Hawk) reworked/tapelooped material?

The two 'astral crimes' titles are reworkings of Tod Slaughter film titles and he was involved in the reissue box so seems likely.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Sunday, 21 July 2024 09:20 (one month ago) link

They're not upcoming though, are they? They were released a month or two ago to coincide with the Union Chapel and Hastings gigs.
