Who the hell is Craig Le Roq (aka the late 70s & 80s funk, soul & r'n'b thread)

so i downloaded a few Craig Le Roq songs from some blog and they're pretty badass. a mix of later Pfunk, early prince (heard that he was doing prince before prince?) and electro/hiphop. i think the site was talking about the dj Electrifying Mojo (are there any of his archived shows online or cds of his picks available??). but i can't find out any information on who LeRoq is.

also, while we're at it, give some good suggestions for more stuff like this. i've been buying up tons of PFunk related stuff, Zapp & Roger, Prince, Time.

obvious or obscure is fine for me. most of my searches lead me into electro and hip hop, which i'm less interested in, but still into. i'm looking for more 'soul' and stuff w/clearly written songs, but i'm open to it all. of the electro stuff i've found, i really like Newcleus

finally, clearly of our time, but definitely taking influence from this stuff (and really doesn't belong in this thread, but i need another reason to talk about them), i LOVE LOVE LOVE Sa Ra Creative Partners

I presume you already know about Fishbone?

you know, i've never actually listened to Fishbone (sorry nickalicious), but i just assumed they were more of a RHCP punk-funk type of thing, not this robot funk type thing that i'm describing

At their best, Fishbone greatly resemble Sly and the Family Stone, although there is a lot of punkish RHCP type stuff, only much MUCH better than the Peps. For two things, they got horn sections and harmony vocals, and a lead singer who can really fuckin' sing. but yeah, they aren't much like Newcleus or Kurtis Mantronik or like that there.

Most of all, "Everyday Sunshine" but also

Fight the Youth, Hey Ma and Pa, their cover of Freddie's Dead, Pouring Rain, a Question of Life (all the 'Truth and Soul' album, really), Unyielding Conditioning, Lemon Meringue, Properties of Propoganda, Party at Ground Zero, Lyin' Ass Bitch (these last two are from their debut EP, which was a little more on the ska side).

That's plenty to get you started with them.
