Freelance musicians composing for TV - should I sign up to MCPS?

OK, so about a year ago I did some music for a cable TV show as a favour to a friend (and for the money, of course!). The show is airing at the moment and he has suggested I should join MCPS.

It seems that there is a one of fee of £80 to join, but I'm wondering what kind of figures I will get back in royalties (if anything). Bearing in mind I rarely have any spare cash I need to know if it will be worthwhile.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

you should join PRS rather than MCPS if yr music is being used for broadcast. Deffo worth every penny of the £80, particularly if there is any chance you will have music used in the future.

1 usage would pay for itself...

So, what's the difference between MCPS and PRS?

Also, would it really pay for itself? I really don't know much about all this, but that sounds too good to be true! Bear in mind this show goes out on little cable channels and - apparently - on in-flight TV channels too.

It's called 'Big Boutique', just in case anyone is interested.

Thanks for all the advice though, it is appreciated. Seems like I should join as soon as possible.
