I've read some rave reviews. Nick Cave wrote three songs. Anyone heard it?

It's good. Sounds like Marianne Faithfull singing Nick Cave songs. Except when the songs are written by Polly Harvey. Then they sound like Marianne Faithfull singing PJ Harvey songs. I like the Jon Brion song at the end the best, though.

It is really good. She sings Nick Cave songs a hell of a lot more convincingly than he does these days.

There's also a Damon Albarn song which, bizarrely and surprisingly, is excellent.

one month passes...
Josh in Chicago's description of what it sounds like OTM. Which means that I'm not listening to it for the songs per se- I've already got enough PJ Harvey records, thanks, but for Marianne's voice. Her beautiful-ugly voice coupled with the word-weary sensual survivor persona-you know, kind of like Lotte Lenya- I totally buy.

I forgot to add that the dude from The Dirty Three turns in one of his excellent violin solos.(Pardon me if I missed the thread where these were declared out of fashion).

yeah this album is excellent, actually, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. I didn't even know about it until a coworker loaned it to me.
