hahaha!

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The amazing thing is that with twenty years hindsight EVERYTHING Frank says was right.
EVERYTHING.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

and even back then, EVERYTHING the washington times says was wrong.

mat, Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, that service doesn't support OS X, so fuck them -- summary of the clip please?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

So great.

Paraphrased exchange:
Frank: "Where are all these supposed songs that advocate incest?"
Suit: "You need to get out more"

?!?!?!

Ernest P. (ernestp), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, it doesn't support SAFARI, not OS X.

you should have firefox on standby.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

words. WORDS.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

you should have firefox on standby.

I say fie on your Firefox. Or not. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"Adolf Hitler used words!"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

WORDS!

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

And their example of video filth: Duran Duran!

Ernest P. (ernestp), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

and why not, Duran Duran were some horny bastards with their videos

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh, I hadn't realized that late Serge Gainsbrough had such a following in media circles.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

man that was awesome...only could get sound not video but zappa was amazing.

yeah, those dudes fascination with incest was getting really creepy....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And their example of video filth: Duran Duran!
And "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister!

John Lofton -- whoa, I never thought I'd see a guy on Crossfire who's 10x the asshole that Robert Novak is.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"is there no filth, no obsenity that should be supressed"?

THANK GOD FOR THIS FRAMING

other dude: "There are words that you used to describe an act of fornication that are just...uh..brutal!"

frank: "So?"

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

amazing.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

WHY IS NOVAK ALIVE AND ZAPPA DEAD?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

THINGS NEVER FUCKING CHANGE

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Frank's deadpan is killer.

WaTimes guy: How much money you make peddling this stuff, Mr Zappa?
FZ: MILLIONS of dollars. Millions of dollars.

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

amazing how much more sophisticated television as a medium has come in the past twenty years. (the recently cancelled) crossfire wouldn't have anyone as buggly as that washington times dude nowadays, I don't think.

i wish someone brought up the rev. moon.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

That was so weird when the suit tried to badger Frank regarding the title "We're Only in It for the Money" - I mean, geez, does he have no understanding of sarcasm or humor?

Frank's synopsis of the video for "Hot for Teacher" is priceless.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

other guy: "You really think that's going to give kids hope, to tell them to go register to vote?!"

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

that link doesn't work, try this:

eman (eman), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

zappa's faraway deadpan look is great.

eman (eman), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, this video actually left me with a somewhat positive attitude, and not just with the ROFFLING. Look how much the conservatives have progressed even! I imagine that now Novak, or any Washington Times writer, wouldn't dare condone censorship. Sure, the Christian right still are fucking nutcases, but at least now they've refocused their attention on children's shows and, really, who cares? They've mostly left music alone. How far we've come.

Mickey (modestmickey), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy crap, this is unbelievable.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 22 January 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ROFFLE!! Man this is great, thanks so much for the link, Forks.

Funniest part is when they're talking about "Hot For Teacher" and the Post drillrod says "You don't seem too amused Frank" and Zappa goes "Why should I be when I'm sitting here with you?" !

You've got to like Zappa. I don't often listen to his stuff but now I'm inspired to pull out Absolutely Free.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 22 January 2005 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

remember zappa for president?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

amazing how much more sophisticated television as a medium has come in the past twenty years. (the recently cancelled) crossfire wouldn't have anyone as buggly as that washington times dude nowadays, I don't think.

I hope this is sarcasm. 24 hour news, and in particular the "debate" format, is unbelievably more of a circus act these days. They're not talking about censorship nearly as much anymore, but war, civil liberties, gay rights, etc.

Keep in mind too, that in the eyes of most viewers at the time, Zappa lost the "debate", which is frightening.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

well, "progressed" might be better termed as "more slick"

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

WaTimes: "Incest didn't USED to be such a problem in America, didn't it Mr. Zappa?"

Zappa: "Oh my God."

Man, Crossfire has always sucked.

Eppy (Eppy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Also:

Zappa: "I tell kids to register to vote, and then, as soon as they're old enough, to run for something."

Novak: "Do you think that gives them hope?"

Zappa: "Well, I don't think they're comitting suicide or anything."

Eppy (Eppy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Eppy yeah

I love it how the WT guy actually tries to claim that incest arose simultaneously with rock music.

Mickey (modestmickey), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I googled john lofton. he's now a constitution party nut:

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Sunday, 23 January 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me why Frank is still my hero.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 29 January 2005 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Keeps saying something about the file path.
