I heard they just got signed by matador. I kinda liked the CD but I've heard their live show is great. Any thoughts?

I love them. But I am totally shocked that Matador signed them. Finally they sign one of the genius bands in NYC.

Magic City (ano ano), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Destined to be "bigger" than Animal Collective by this time next year.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

If this is the band who did "Captain of Her Heart," good. Having them on Matador would mean something I'm unsure of, cuter than The Soft Boys reissue, though, for sure. Otherwise, don't know.

Hawley Griffin, Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a good feeling about them too. i'm really interested to see what they put out next. i was shocked about matador too, but i've heard rumors of other great NYC bands they are talking with too...I think they are pretty smart to get on them now.

owen reading, Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

still haven't heard 'em.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i booked em a few yrs back w Company and i remember their peppy verve and mathy strikings on guitars..all in all they at least were not earnest in th way that makes u slap people..matador occasionaly will throw a mercy fuck sum bands way(koff, koff) and hopefully they will sell 346 records

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

don't know them either but i'm glad i wasn't the first to respond to this thread title by first thinking of "the captain of her heart"

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i miss company.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

...she couldn't wait another day for me
the captain of her heart

my dad used to love that song

i haven't heard the double either

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i like their last album. i don't think they have commercial appeal though. (matador)

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 23 January 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i like them a lot, but im biased, one of the guys used to be a co-worker of mine.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 24 January 2005 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
wow, this new album is awesome. waaaaaaay better than palm fronds.

a lot more drums, more melody. a little similar to the wolf parade stuff, less angry.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 July 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

i think the new one is better too
on our way and hot air are ace
still not sure if they will be big indie stars though

mitch dub (ano ano), Saturday, 23 July 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

what's it called?

rizzx (rizzx), Saturday, 23 July 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

"loose in the air," comes out in september. the promotional black balloons are nice. (still haven't heard it yet myself, should snag a copy.)

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 23 July 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

they ain't bad.

juicy juice is 100 percent juice (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

i like them, and one guy in it i met was really nice, but on the other hand, another guy i met in it was a total dick.

musically speaking i like it , i'm interested to hear the new stuff but i'm doubting it'll leave a lost lasting impression on me

breezy, Sunday, 24 July 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

"Captain of Her Heart" sorta sucks.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 24 July 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

too long ago, too long apart
she couldn't wait another day for
the captain of her heart

Double is great mall-rock!

SWA fan (SWA fan), Sunday, 24 July 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

b-b-but that sax!!!

xpost

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 24 July 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

On Our Way totally rules.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

they won't be big.

(of course, with the Wilderness pfm hype, who knows.)

sean gramophone (Sean M), Saturday, 30 July 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
They were by far the most entertaining band of the four I saw at that Williamsburg Junkyard show.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

What, the delicately-arranged folk melodies of Ex-Models didn't do it for you?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

they were great on saturday but deserved clearer sound. Oneida were great saturday despite the PA giving way part-way through.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I thought they were mediocre when they opened for Mountain Goats. Watered-down Interpol. Then I got the press kit which contained glowing remarks from Paul Banks.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I really didn't think they sounded like Interpol.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

my love for this band is wavering. i have a promo CD and I can't really listen to it all the way through. it's his voice that kills me. :(

breezy, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

I said to hstencil that the Ex-Models were 'guitarrorists'; after 5 minutes of that I'm ready for dental work.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

sometimes i wonder what happended to these dudes.

mizzell, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

i think they're pretty much broken up -- dudes all live in different parts of the country. too bad -- as far as 00s indie rock bands, they were way better than most bands who got more of a following. kept expecting them to break through, but it didn't seem to happen!

tylerw, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

Palm Fronds is so good. I was listening to it last week and honestly think things would have turned out different for them if that record had been released this year.

Barnaby, Hardly, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

does ilm have a thread about double (not THE double)?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VfVLiGO6gwQ/Sl8FH-PYp-I/AAAAAAAAA7I/wQAoxpHnGK4/s320/double-the_captain_of_her_heart_s.jpg

it's kind of a nightmare to search for

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know, surely they've been mentioned on the balearic thread?
that album, "blue" i think, is ok, but captain of her heart and woman of the world are miles better than anything else on it.

mizzell, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

there is an amazing amount of threads re: double leopards, btw

mizzell, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

those two songs are so great tho!

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

Destined to be "bigger" than Animal Collective by this time next year.

totally! didn't mean to say otherwise.

mizzell, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

listening to loose in the air now. takes me back. this band and the occasion hold a special significance for me cause of the time when i saw them live a good amount. never understand people making interpol comparisons.

mizzell, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 23:48 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

weird. a month after i bumped this thread i walked into other music and there is a new double album for sale. self released on thimbleful records. the little write up said they might not be a band anymore, though.
