which is nice.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i was pleased.

i didn't watch any of the series but my mum and my girlfriend wanted 'Kenzie' to win.

When Bez won my mum said "how can they give it to that washed up, drug riddled guy".

So, my Mum is off the christmas card list.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did Bez win?

David Merryweather (DavidM), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

6) For defending Jackie Stallone against the attacks of the others

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

cos everyone loves a raver

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"Shaun Ryder -- Vocals
Paul Ryder -- Guitar
Bez -- Bez..."

That's all that needs to be said.

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark Berisford, we salute you.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Champion, absolutely top class, fookin crackin!

bez (Lukey G), Monday, 24 January 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

But who was the Xander?

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 24 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it's only right, he's a national treasure. I got a few texts over the last week asking me to "vote five times, 3 quid'll go to charity" saying "he's one of us..."

nick.K (nick.K), Monday, 24 January 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

There's the "one of us" vote, there's the fact that the Great British Public (copyright. The Great British Tabloids) love an underdog and I reckon all of the Greater Manchester area voted en-mass (a different strand of "one of us").

Anna (Anna), Monday, 24 January 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

plus every viewer who has ever dropped a pill

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 24 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

and every viewer who's around 30 and has fond memories of the early nineties [1]. mrs fiendish and i were actually dancing round the room shouting: "yes!" when he won. which is absolutely tragic of us, but just for a second it meant something; it was like a validation of our youth.

[1] which probably translates as "every viewer who has ever dropped a pill"

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"No way. I'm not 'avin that!"

Bumfluff, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

But every teenage girl who could send a text message probably voted for Kenzie. Wouldn't that cancel out "every viewer who has ever dropped a pill"?

Thinking about it, as the vote was split 54% to 46%, it nearly did, didn't it?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think he's one of me. That would have been Germaine Greer. Still, I'm glad he won. The only bit I saw was when he was pressing his ear to the french windows saying over and over again, 'that's proper crowd, that', almost wistfully.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking as an american weaned on bad tv, that was one of the most bizarre bits of programming i've ever seen (including the surreal life).

bez is one of the greatest antiheroes of our time. only in the UK can the thirtysomething pills 'n' whizz demographic make a dent in the public opinion. if he were competing over here he'd be knocked out in the first round.

amanda lear (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That's probably true Jody. I too receieved several pro-Bez text messages from friends.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I received half a dozen pro-Germaine Greer telegrams.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The GBP often votes for 'national treasure' "ahhh"-eliciting types to win Big Brother (Brian, Cameron, Nadia). I see Bez fitting in with that. Plus a bit of the "tell the census your religion is Jedi"-ism among aforementioned 30-somethings.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

watch it, or i'll come down there and knack you with my lightsaber.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

'In a bit'

Mipp, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

so, the £50K didn't last too long then : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/manchester/7350750.stm
